"Mums" been the word the last week, as I was tipped off about the impending Jawbone upgrade to their stylish and popular Bluetooth speaker, the Jambox, was on its way. In fact, if you keep an eye out, you may see a few promotional photos of the Big Jambox over at the Jawbone Pinterest site that were taken at my apartment (for no compensation, as it was a favor for a friend who is a photographer). So by chance, I got an early hands-on peek at the big brother addition to Jawbone's wireless speaker offering...
The Big Jambox can be summarized as more/better of the same as all the features the original Jambox brought to the market: captivating Yves Behar industrial design (this time available in red, white, and black), now nearly double the size (10" long and 2.7lbs) and double the bass over the original.
If you liked the original Jambox but was desiring a bigger sound, this is Jawbone's answer. An extra feature the new super-sized model offers over its smaller sibling is playback controls; skip back and forth between tracks. You can expect up to 15 hours of continuous wireless playback at up to 33 feet when connected to any Bluetooth compatible device.
Additionally the Big Jambox works as a speakerphone for conference calls using a built-in microphone, and an optional carrying case is available for users who want to take advantage of the unit's portability.
I was fond of the original Jambox, but found it was a little too small in size and sound for what I was looking for personally. But Jawbone's update brings me closer to finding the ideal wireless speaker for performance, portability, and aesthetics in one handsome package (if only it had Airplay compatibility, I'd already have plunked down an order). The Big Jambox is plenty loud for the average living room or apartment, while the larger capacity battery improves all-day use between work and play.
