There aren't too many hotel designers who are able to create spaces like Jean-Philippe Nuel's. His work goes beyond being just hip or trendy—he creates a kind of dream-scape in bedrooms using light, wall murals, and ethereal fabrics. Nuel explains, "It has long been said that a hotel should resemble a home, but in reality it should be much more than that."
"A hotel has to go beyond the home to be a place where the decor should surprise and astonish without shocking...The decor I create has to encourage people to write a personal story of a moment of their life that will remain exceptional—the memory of a journey, of a meeting, or of some discovery."
Nuel is based in France and, in addition to hotels, he designs residential projects, spas, stores, and products. (His Luca chair is sold by Ligne Roset.) For more information, see his website and project portfolio.
