- What I Love About My Small Home:
- Even though my place is small, it has a very spacious feel because of the tall windows in the living room and kitchen. My previous apartment was a tiny studio that overlooked an alley, so my new place was definitely an upgrade. When the sunlight is streaming in through the windows, it feels much bigger than it is. And it's great to no longer be in the alley! My windows are on the street now, and I feel so much more connected to my neighborhood.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- There have been a lot of challenges over the years, but the one that never goes away is the lack of storage space. I haven't really solved it, but I have learned to accept it. I'll see things that I would love to have, but I know there's no room for them. So I've become a great window shopper.

I love this place, especially the living room! Where did you get the coffee table and sofa?
I agree! Where is the coffee table from? It's perfect!
Love everything about the space except for the circular mirror- reminds me of the security mirrors in stores and on school busses. Otherwise, this is a perfect combination of home-y and design-y.
Wow - I don't usually comment but I love the living room and especially the coffee table!
Respectfully disent ~ I like the circular mirror! Plus, aren't they a centuries-old tradition?
Hey, your magnets have a fridge on them. :)
Great space, it has a very cozy feel. Very jealous of the size of your eat-in kitchen despite the space.
Nice layout! Good to see some architects are designing to the reality of small space living so it can function well!
(I kind of like the convex mirror!)
Love the wall paper in the bedroom. Really like this space.
I love this apartment. I love your style. Are you gay? Are you single?
Where do people get all this cool stuff? It's not at crate and barrel or west elm--and the antique stores in my area all think that a scratched coffee table from the 1970's is worth $1500. lol
Nevertheless, awesome place. This inspires me to try a little harder in my own apartment.
@particleman I have the exact same problem around here.
I love the wallpaper and all the pictures on the fridge. Whenever I move putting stuff on the fridge is the first thing I do. It makes it feel more like home.
Very cool. The accent pieces, artwork and ephemera work well together. Overall, the place looks well designed and comfortable. Hard to believe its sooooo small.
I voted for this entry because of the kitchen. I really like the double wall cabinets and black granite backsplash.
I created an account just to ask: Where did you get the candle holder in your fireplace? I've been looking for something exactly like that!!
Thanks- great space!
Errr...fridge magnet overload?? But you've got a nice place!
I lol'd at the window shopping comment, I so feel you on that. Your place doesn't seem cluttered at all, you're very neat!! I love your bedroom. I seriously spent the most time staring at the textures, layers, and earthy colors of your wall and bedding. I love the entire place.
The windows are a luxury.
Lovely home. Where did you get the wall clock?
Thank you for all the comments; I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks to AT for the post. And congratulations to the other entrants!
@sharonao21 and @kate2002: The coffee table is from eBay, and unfortunately, there are no identifiers on it. It was listed as possibly Heywood Wakefield, but I doubt it is. The sofa is from Crate & Barrel.
@mmilham, @vintage birthday and @sherry binh: It actually IS a security mirror. I wasn't able to find a regular mirror in my price range, so I bought a security mirror and glued a hook on the back. I keep waiting for it to fall off and smash on the floor...
@sunday morning, @andrea_xtina and @anne pck: Ha! I am huge magnet fan and buy one whenever I travel. Friends buy them for me as well. Growing up, we always had stuff on our fridge, so it's something that reminds me of home...
@rvajay: Yes and no :-)
@otilly: I'm really lucky to have the kitchen space, including the bar area which acts as a table. Thanks!
@particleman: Thank you very much. I've found some stuff at Crate & Barrel and IKEA, but I'm lucky that I was able to get some pieces from my parents (and I've got dibs on some more stuff at their house). I'm also fortunate to have some creative friends - the George Nelson-like clock was a homemade gift (made for $20), as was the print in my bedroom. Good luck with your searching!
@senseandsense: The candleholder came from Pottery Barn about ten years ago, so I'm not sure if it's still available...
@dynamicduo7: Thanks for the comments!
@tacobell: For real!
@This Farming Man (charming!) I thought it was funny to know that the mirror IS a security mirror, made me love this place more =)
Good work! You chose the apartment well and made the best of your space. It's very homey and I mean that in the best way. I'll bet your friends are comfortable when they're visiting you. I'm a yes on the mirror. I think it has an MCM vibe and security never entered my mind. I always like mirrors that reflect off-key or faded.
This is a beautiful place to call home. You've done a great job!
Awesome place!
I love all the fridge magnets, and double that for the security mirror-- I never thought of using one in a home before. And if you catch a glance at someone stealing your stuff in it, it might just be me. Great apartment!
I love all the dark wood furniture pieces. And that wallpaper is so beautiful and the bed so comfy.
