Name: Jen & Eric
Location: Winooski, Vermont (across the river from Burlington)
After a decade in New York City my husband Eric and I decided to move northward to Burlington, Vermont. With the move, we were looking for a less hectic pace, affordable living, and a new adventure. Following a home search that had us looking at everything from decrepit frat houses to closet-less shacks with six-foot ceilings, the perfect first home for us ended up being a new, energy efficient condo along the Winooski River front in downtown Winooski, Vermont — just across the river from Burlington.
We’ve attempted to transform our generic, blank slate of a modern home with midcentury modern details to add visual interest and touches of our personal style. Having always lived in rentals with boring off-white walls along with painting restrictions, wall color was first on our agenda. Shades of Benjamin Moore blues and greens give our space a vibrant personality and cohesive feel.
The furnishings are a mix of eBay and thrift store treasures including a Lane Cedar chest, atomic starburst end table, and vintage flower clock; alongside retro-reproductions including diner-style bar stools, atomic-inspired lighting, and a custom made Eames-style coffee table. Smaller touches include a vintage magazine rack, antique radios, flour and sugar containers from the 1950s, a working rotary-dial telephone from the 1960s and a vintage starburst tissue box. The light fixtures over the dining table and bar are from the midcentury modern collection from Rejuvenation.
Our ultimate goal would be to replace some of our not-so-stylish pieces, like an old couch and IKEA TV stand, with midcentury modern-inspired pieces. Much like finding our apartment itself, we’re learning that finding each new accent piece is like completing the puzzle of our dream home.
Thanks Jen & Eric!

White Enamel Flatwa...
I just painted my hallway a similar color as the living room. Thank you so much for the inspiration for the next step of decorating!
I did a double take at the last thumbnail, as I have the same bed (ikea, right?) and the same light colored condo carpet and the same electric green walls in my master bedroom...
I love all the color and the simplicity of the furniture; not too cluttered, looks comfortable and homey.
love your paint colors
Very cute space.
dsqaured: I too have the same bed and very similar wall colors in my guest room, but this makes it clear I need to update my bedding.
Very cute. I had friends who lived in a former sugar(?) factory in Winooski several years back. Nice place!
i love the colors and the eclectic feel to your place! and how random that my husband and i just moved up from the nyc-metro area to winooski, vt as well! i believe we're actually neighbors as we live along the river, and i think i see my apt building out of your windows!
Holy crap look at that atomic starburst end table! I'm having the hardest time finding mid-century furniture and now I'm just jealous.
I think that might be the coffee table of my dreams. I assume it is a vintage find. If not, source?
Oh, nevermind. I see now in the entry it is custom made. Gorgeous though!
I envy your palette.
My mother lives in the same apartment complex (!) I love the color in your space. It's giving me ideas what can be done at my mom's place.
lal, the exact same thought process went through my head when I saw that coffee table. Sigh.
Your coffee table is amazing! By the way, I have that same clock you have by your dining table...looks great in your place!
Cute! I like the colors.
Love the colors!
well, I'm not so crazy about the colors (when you have a view, and cool furniture, you really don't need them)-- but certainly that's my personal choice, and these colors work for you. my reason for commenting, however, is that I think you'll find lots of mid-century stuff on craigslist (check cl NH, too), way more reasonably priced then the stuff you might have found in nyc or boston. also, if I remember correctly, there are some killer thrift stores in vt/nh, just filled with tasty vintage finds. happy hunting!
oh no, it was going so well until we hit the saggy sofa cover and the ikea bed.
@skrelnick23 - I believe Jen said the sofa, for instance, was only a temporary solution until they can find something more fitting to their aesthetic. So maybe a house tour someday will show something more to your liking.
And Jen, we found our fantastic mid-century sofa at a thrift store for around a hundred bucks, and that was in West Hollywood. Keep looking and you'll find something awesome. Love the place so far.
Thanks all! Just saw this was posted! The coffee table was purchased off Etsy, but unfortuantely the shop owner is no longer online. The paint colors were Benjamin Moore Jamaican Aqua, Colorado Gray, and Sycamore Green, if anyone was interested.
Also happy to report the saggy couch has since been replaced with a mid century modern reproduction. Other tip - for those with cats (which was also the reason we kept the ugly couch so long) Soft paw nail covers have worked like a dream to keep her from destroying the furnishings!
lovely colors
My husband and I are hoping to buy a place of our own within the next few years, and while we'd love to find a place with some original details and character, it's nice to see that a cookie-cutter condo can be given great personality when the right colors and pieces are introduced. Holy run on sentence!
