Name: Jenna
Location: Burbank, California
Shortly after purchasing our tiny (709 sq. ft) home in the L.A. suburbs, we knew we needed more space. We decided to transform our wasted backyard area into a patio oasis. We gutted the dirt and poured concrete, paved it with slate tile (which wraps all the way around the house), and replaced our bedroom window with a french door for easy access.
I kept the decor earthy and neutral (and wallet-friendly, using only IKEA and our local grocery store for everything!). We splurged for a barbecue grill and had a custom-built storage bench made for our yard tools and extra seating. We wired up an outlet for extended laptop usage, a fan for lighting and cool breezes, and speakers to control the mood. Being in L.A., we are able to use the outdoor space year round, and with the affordable $5k budget, it's by far the best investment we've made to the house.
Thanks, Jenna!

very nicely done!
since i also live in california, i can totally appreciate how an outdoor space can add valuable square footage that can be used all year long.
i love your color choices, especially the wall color. did you paint the whole house that color on the exterior? it looks very fresh and modern :)
It looks lovely! A huge improvement from the "before". The slate tile was a great choice.
Lovely, nice choice of colors, tiles and furniture. I'm sure this has really expanded the usable space of your house. I don't care for having the tiles on the diagonal, but that is just my personal preference. This is a major upgrade in the quality of what you have.
BTW, what happened to the metal box thing (a/c?) that is to the right of the windows in the "before" picture. Was it relocated?
Hmmmm, well, it looks just as fantastic as it did the first time this story was posted two weeks ago: Before & After: Jenna's Patio Oasis
What's with the deja vu?
Two gigantic THUMBS UP! So awesome for you; it couldn't be any more lovely or serene!
Damn! And mean that in a good way.
NickGood,
The metal thing is hiding behind the potted palm!
OOooo AAAHhhh- pretty!
This is ah-mazing!! I love it.
Wooooow!

This is one of the most amazing space transformations I've seen; beyond-excellent job!
