- What I Love About My Small Home:
- My decision to rent in an apartment complex rather than in a house or condo was basically a balancing act. By sacrificing a little space and privacy, I saved on rent and get to live in a great location! And, though I love the charm of old houses, having a blank slate to personalize was a ton of fun!
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- I'm a collector by nature and have a hard time passing up a cute little bauble at a thrift store. Because clutter makes a small space feel even smaller, I've learned to only bring home the "best of the best I can't live without you" treasures. It's been a great skill to develop because now I love each of my bits and bobs more than ever!

I am so in love with that coffee table. I have the end table to match it exactly. Barter? I'm sure I have something around here you want.. ;)
Looks small for 800+ sq feet. Nevertheless, it does have a homey feel.
I like your living room, and I see that sweet kitty on the sofa! Your Scrabble tiles art work is cool. I love that cozy outdoor porch area with the chair and plants. Another favorite is the little white table. I assume this is in your entry, as it looks like a "landing strip" area. Nice place.
I love it, very minimal-but well thought out.......serene too!
like it a lot, especially the living room.
I wish there were more pictures. I like everything except the scrabble tiles.
Simple done so well.
@ANNE PCK - Only one bedroom was photographed, and from the floorplan it looks like most of the square footage went to the bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Speaking of...two bathrooms? I live in just under 1,000 square feet and we only have one!
Wait, nevermind. I misread the floorplan. There's only one bathroom.
@Mrs.Robinson, that's the Lane Acclaim series. I have the side tables and coffee table too. I'm on the hunt for the elusive swivel coffee table and the buffet of the series.
The apartment is so incredibly inviting, serene, and comfortable looking. I would love to see the rest of it!
What a dreamy sofa.
@Pi - I'm confused. It looks like two bathrooms to me, too....
I love your place, and La Jolla, and your scrabble letters! Thanks for sharing!
@Pi and @Strikermary the bathroom situation is super strange. There's one with a sink and shower and one with a sink and toilet. I'm really not sure why they designed it like that, but it's kind of a waste of space. Oh well...
What a dreamy living room, my god.
Thanks everyone!! I wish I could have shared more pictures - you can see more of the apartment here on my blog: http://www.insideways.com/2012/03/grad-housing-apartment-tour.html
Please, where is the sofa from? I am so in love with it. What a beautiful job you've done ... and I'm the same way with thrifted treasures.
Best apartment ever! You really do have the best sofa I've ever seen.
@Nandapanda the couch was from craigslist. Sorry I don't have a store to share :(
Thank you for the extra pics! I'm smitten with your place. And that sofa really is quite dreamy. Great find.
Does anyone know of instructions online to make those pipe and board bookshelves?
@ KREIBTRON: Check out The Brick House blog or Curbly for directions.
This is so beautiful. Light, clean, serene, quirky. I think it's my favourite of the comp so far.
That couch is to die for!
i think it is the best i have seen! a lot of treasures indeed!
I have seen your entertainment unit before, love it and have been trying to convince hubby to build me one!
Where did you get the faux wire chandelier?
That media center is amazing!
Love this! Great style - you've got some amazing furniture!
@thera the wire chandelier was a super lucky sidewalk find. Someone just left it there with a sign that said "free"!! I had to awkwardly carry it with me for the rest of the day, but it was so worth it :)
Those! Scrabble! Tiles! Are! Awesome!
What a really neat idea.
Nice mustache drawer!
Your living room is amazing and I'm going to build that pipe shelf for my own place!
Could you please tell me where you got the Scrabble tiles? Thanks! :)
@tess09 I made them myself - it really wasn't very hard or expensive. Here's a link with the full tutorial: http://www.insideways.com/2011/10/diy-scrabble-art.html
