- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love the light, the trees outside my windows and the quiet calm of my home. I love that despite its size, my studio has become a gathering place for my friends. Between the settee, the leather ottoman, the tufted chair and the two wooden chairs, my apartment can seat six people and the floor is always open! In this case, ‘intimate’ proved much more than a realtor’s euphemism.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- As my bed is the biggest thing in my apartment, it was very difficult to avoid making it the focal point of the space. For the first six months, adjusting the layout became a monthly sport. However, the set up shown here has stood the test of time. I opted to put the bed at the far end of the apartment behind the leather settee and hang a curtain divider. This works to section off a living space and allows me to walk in the door without immediately falling into bed!

Is that corkboard instead of chalkboard? Hooray, if so!
BTW, favorite'd for fitting an entire apartment in a space smaller than my bedroom! Mind, boggled.
Wow! I thought my space was small but yours is absolutely teen tiny. It's smaller than my living room. Great job in not only making your small space lovely but functional!
Amazing job with such a small space.
I love it. It looks amazing.
Good work! I've been eyeing that printed quilt for a while. Seeing it in a real life setting now, I might just have to buy it!
This is why I love (and miss) most of Apartment Therapy: showcasing and tips for those who live in small apartments!
Thank you! As someone who truly has a teeny tiny place like yours, it's great to see how functional a space we can still have with such little room. Truly inspiring. Congrats!
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Especially love the vintage leather loveseat. Great work.
My place isn't much bigger than yours. You are an inspiration.
Wow! Putting both the small and the cool in the contest name! Your apartment looks so welcoming, I kept checking the square footage, saying "That can't be right!" I really love your (Oscar Wilde?) print and the textures of your corkboard, rug, and loveseat in particular.
...I'd also like to add that as of this comment you are the only entry in this contest without an Eames chair, and I always feel I've got to support the individualist. (I'm not saying Eames chairs aren't nice, just giggling at how our little design community has certain interests.)
Cute. Love the little doll-house kitchen.
flabbergasted at what you've done with such a small space! Way to go!
Wow! Awesome job, and love the furniture, rug, layout choice.
My hat's off to you, Jennifer. Amazing how you made such a tiny space work so beautifully.
An amazing transformation of a very small space into a beautiful, appealing and welcoming home. Awesome job!
Perhaps it's just not showing up on my computer, but I don't see a picture of the bathroom.
I love the way you have created separate spaces where there isn't any space to really speak of. I also love the light. It works for you.
I love the sleeping area!
Awesome apartment!!!
I love your apartment! Im jealous!!!
Very impressed with the use of space! I think my living room is bigger than your entire aparmtment! Well done!
I am thoroughly impressed with your use of space. Bravo!
Amazing windows! I love your cork wall and shelf o' shoes!
I *love* that leather loveseat. Is it a vintage find or can you share the source?
Amazing job! I love the cork wall.
Holy Crimmini's that's amazing....It doesn't look or 'feel' cramped at all. Congrats!, you've got my vote.
I do have to give huge props for fitting in both what seems to be a full-sized bed and a couch (even if it's more of a loveseat). Too many times people combine and end up with either a sofabed (always uncomfy and a pain) or their bed as a sofa (still uncomfy and sags the mattress from continued sitting on one side of the bed).
@Yard - how exactly do you know the bathroom is "creey, dark and cluttered" if you can't even see it? I'm not sure this apartment needs therapy, but you need etiquette lessons.
Bravo! After using every inch of my tiny 420 sq ft place, I am in absolute awe of what you were able to do with under a third of that. It looks fantastic!
Amazingly cool and small!
Great work Jen! The functional style of this truly teeny-tiny place is remarkable.
I love the pop of color from the red apple. Looks very delicate...
This is inspiring. I now know how to set up an efficient little kitchen ANYWHERE. :) Thank you for sharing your enchanting, sweet home, Jennifer!
I've been reading AT for years and signed up just to comment. It's inspiring what you've done with so little space! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for all the comments - you've all made my week. It's so exciting to be able to share!!
@SPRAYFAINT It would be much cooler if it was vintage, but the loveseat actually came from http://www.restorationhardware.com/
@KELLIE88M Funny you should mention that delicate apple, it actually gets put away for my raucous gatherings
I have the same table! I'm not sure where it came from originally (mine was a craigslist find) but it's such a fantastic and versatile table for a small space!
136sq feet. That is all.
I like your place! Way to work with an itsy-bitsy space. How do you make your bed without crawling on top? I just moved my bed into a corner where I can't walk around it, which means crawling on top of my bed to make it. Super annoying.
I am honestly speechless! Amazing that it is even possible to create a living space in 136sq ft. I don't know how you did it, but you did it well! Honestly, it would be hard for me to get out of bed with that window there. I would spend all day (and night) lying in bed staring out onto the street and people watch!! Love it!
This person deserves to win if only for the sheer size (or lack thereof) of her apartment.
That, or you could create a new category: "The Jennifer."
I have no idea why, but I'm getting a great vibe from these photos. Looks like a really happy place to live.
Love Your place specially the couch and rug. It has an european touch.
Amazing and ingenious! Perfect bedroom for dreamers...!
Jennifer-your apartment is the reason I love Apartment Therapy! You can put your little 136 sq ft up against the 2,000 sq ft houses any day. I hope you win this contest!
To Yard's comments: You seem to outnumbered by 43 in being able to cope with small design-perhaps your ego wouldn't fit in 136 sq ft. Get over it.
this is unbelievably amazing!!! Well done... love the light at the kitchen
Wow! What a great job you've done Jen! You have a beautiful apt. It's amazing how you've made it so cozy and functional. Definitely my fave! You're the winner in my book! Greg
Love it Jen!!! Awesome job!!!
Love it Jen! It looks very cozy!
love how much personal design style went into this and how in such a small space you get a sense of comfort and warm without being crowded.
Gorgeous! I am in love.
This feels like such a happy space. No wonder your friends like coming over. Great job!
I agree with Nyce. I think the contest could do with a redefinition of sizes. This is teeny-tiny. Amazing how large and uncluttered you have made your apartment seem to be. Great job.
This makes me thoroughly miss my "small apartment" days! I love how creatively and beautifully you set up your place and made a small space feel very large! Kudos!
136 sq ft of pure genius! Amazing use of space! You've got my vote.
now that's more like it - 136 sq ft is a serious challenge and you met it :)
Love it! I love every single piece that makes this place so unique. The charm of the living area with the quilted chair, leather loveseat, cork wall and beautiful rug; the serenity of the sleeping area captured with the perfect colour scheme; the adorable kitchen... It's quite amazing how you have chosen all the unique pieces with just right dimensions. Everything is in harmony here. I admire your vision and courage!
And I love the dolly-converted coffee table - genius!
Love it! I didn't even realize there was a bed behind the loveseat when I was looking at the pictures, the height is perfect. And the bed by the window?! What a great place to read, stargaze, people watch...
Gorgeous! I love it. I wish we could have seen pictures of the bathroom!

So impressive!! Congrats on making such a tiny space look so wonderful.
I am very impressed by this as well.
inspirational for sure--so comfortable and I love the bed by the window too
Whether you win this contest or not, please know what an inspiration you have been for so many of us. Thanks for sharing your space and you keen organizational and styling skills.
It looks effortless. Just right.
It has been one year and I still go back and look at this to stay inspired!
