Color Inspiration: I purchased the rug years ago because of my attraction to bold colors. I've often regretted the purchase but decided to build around it. Since this rug encompasses a rainbow, I went with a neutral couch, pale yellow on the walls and accent pieces with shades of the same intense hues. There are so many to work with!

White Enamel Flatwa...
I'm experiencing serious built-in envy for that secretary!
No kidding. I have never seen anything like it.
Ditto on the secretary. Jennifer, I'm giving you a thumbs up in spite of the warm, yellow (tungsten?) lighting used in the pictures, which seems to work against the adjectives "bright" and "rainbow." It makes your place look cozy, but mutes the colors waaay down. Still, I can see what you're doing and I like it. :)
And kudos on that sublime blob of a cat.
i love the built-ins and the cabinet/bookshelf combo. where did you get that? it looks like a file cabinet ...
I love the coffee table... where from?
The cat got my vote!
I love the chubby bunny cat!
I agree with TheoJ. Plenty of style, but not a lot of color.
I really appreciate everyone's comments! My home is a hodge podge of good deals (floor samples from Crate and Barrel-including the cabinet/bookshelf and coffee table), inexpensive finds here and there, and family heirlooms. You're right, my lighting choice was off. I was very disappointed in my photos!
kitten!
I was going to ask where the bookshelf and coffee table were from, so surprised its from a mainstream store. Kudos because I thought they might be more vintage pieces.
I'm impressed that you stuck with your purchase and found a way to make it beautiful. It adds a pop of color without overpowering the room. Kudos!
Ohhhhh Kitty!!!!!!! :)
I'm with everyone on the built-in envy. GREEN with it. Love the cozy feel. But it definitely is a bit on the neutral side.
Bonus points for the fluffy kitteh!
The coffee table and doors to the dining room in rear pull the woods together and really balance out the soft whites and yellows. Love those pops of darkish reds and I'm wondering if a leafy green plant on the table behind the white couch would be good in order to pick up the greens in the striped carpet. These are all my favorite colors but I'm thinking what if more of the soft yellows and also a darker yellow to add depth?
Love the rug. But, I can't get into the duplication of book/display shelves and think that wall to the left of the built-in would be a great place to hang some artwork.
I am in love with that coffee table! The furniture and design elements really works well with the architecture.
KITTEH!
But seriously... your cat is really cute.
That cat is too precious! Did I miss the rainbow brightness of the room? I love everything in this room, it is very cozy, but thank goodness for the rug because this is a very neutral pallet.
You know I love your house Jen! I especially love that Misora is working his angles.
I love your room -- the color palette is both warm and calming. On an unrelated note, I live with your cat's doppelganger -- her size and coloring are identical.
I think the design is awesome and disagree with the comments about the name. I think that the decor is colorful while remaining tasteful. And I just want to pick that little fur ball of a cat up and kiss it! It's very welcoming without being too cozy. Very, very well done!
Love the cat holding court :)
Like.
Also still laughing that my toddler called your kitteh, "Katamari." It so fits.
I am pretty certain that you are just saying that you had to build around the rug to avoid insulting Mega-cat. We all know the truth is that you had to build around this fine feline...ps Sorry that your cat is upstaging your wonderful place!
