Name: JL & Anna
Location: Manila, Philippines

We've lived in our apartment for 5 months now. Our place is only a 50 square meter, 2-bedroom, 1 bath apartment — but it doesnt feel tiny at all, as we have maximized each corner to the fullest. Since the unit was so white and bare when it was turned over to us, we had endless design possibilities. It was like working on a blank canvas, and we can do anything we want with it!

It took us 3 months to renovate the place — we had the walls repainted with a stark white color in satin finish; we had cove lighting installed in the ceiling, shelves were built in corners and just below the ceiling, one room was painted in smoke grey, while the computer room was painted in sunny yellow and kitchen walls in salad green. As for the design, we placed artifacts from Thailand and India. We actually bought and hand-carried all the decors from our travels abroad — we wanted everything in our home to be as authentic as possible and not just store-bought.

We also wanted an Asian-inspired home , so we chose decor with warm colors such as brown and orange. The yellow lights from the lamps and drop-lights also made the place more "homey". And of course, there's a bit of IKEA in our house as well, We have always been fascinated with the practicality yet tasteful design of IKEA items, so we would always bring home loads of their stuff from Hong Kong — we handcarried the kitchen wooden step-ladder, wooden towel-drier, lamps, kitchen utensils, pots, etc. Overall our place is homey, practical and yet with our own sense of style — just right for the two of us.

Thanks JL & Anna!
