- What I Love About My Small Home:
- Since the space is so small we don't have room for things we don't need. We're very selective about what comes into our home and because of this we finally have a space that we feel defines us.
Some of the pieces in the room were my grandfather's, and I am honored that I get to use the same pieces that he used for over fifty years. We've personalized the space with our own photography and maps we've collected of places that are special to us.
It's a space that we can relax in and not feel closed in, despite the apartment's small size.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Our apartment is very cookie cutter, and is identical to the other seven units in our building. We used the big area rug to cover up the floor tiles we weren't crazy about and used personal pieces to make the space feel our own. We've given our apartment a personality, and it now looks nothing like the other units in the building!

I am totally digging the MCM vibe in your place!!! So how long was it between submitting your place and AT posting it on here??? Just wondering if my own submission has a chance at seeing the light of day on the site. Thanks!
can't really vote on this since really only one room is shown.
love it, very cool!
Very nice. I'd do something with the living room windows though.
Very IKEA, but it looks well put-together. I like the ORK posters, EAMES chair, & decking. Would have liked to see other areas of the place.
Good point @indigosailor
@wyatt.white - I'm in the same boat as you and submitted my apartment late Sunday, 7 April.
i love what i see but this is one room.. and not sure fair to vote on that basis. kitchen/bathroom/bedroom??
I wish there was an apartment shot. I love the dog bed-- where did you get it?
@Aurorava here's a break down of where everything's from :)

Love the living room! Can you post pics of the bedroom in place of that night shot of the living room. Would be great to see how you did the other rooms.
@Runisaa- I emailed AT and unfortunately the rules state that you can't add pictures after they've been submitted. When I get home tonight I'll whip up a blog post with them in it and post a link here.
I like your furniture including your dog's pad/bed. Looks spacious than it is. May be the rug makes it so,but I am not into stripes all over the floor or hanging by the bar.
I cannot vote on an entry with only one room out of four on display. It is a lovely living room, but would liked to have seen kitchen/bedroom/bathroom.
i looove the living room, very pretty, but I have to agree that the contest is for a great little apartment, and all I see is a room. Hope we can see the rest of it in some other post! :)
I could just live here. I ordered the same two fabrics on the dog bed to do my pillows and chairs! Love the MCM credenza!
Looks cool. I've seen a similar rug on Nate Berkus, and while I like it, it eems to cause some visual discomfort. Stripes bother my eyes - whether the item is a shirt, towel, rug, whatever. But I do like the yellow/white curtains, and also the cute little yellow patio set on the balcony.
I love the maps / art!
Love the credenza, sofa and coffee table. Where did you get the sofa?
Why are the yellow and white curtains not in the 2nd and 3rd pictures?
I'd like to come visit and take that coffee table home.
It can't be "too Ikea" since you don't have a Karlstad sofa. :) I think that's the Petrie sofa.
My floors are even more g*d-awful. Sympathies. Also, did you add tiles to the terrace or were they like that?
I was also playing where's waldo with the curtains!
I love that the dog has his own spot in the living room.
@Mary and Felipe @Medenver @Runissa @affee @v.cutino @indigosailor
Alright all, as requested here are photos of the rest of the apartment:

@profkd @v.cutino The only Ikea things in the room are actually the rug, frames and patio tiles. My rule is no Ikea furniture, only accents :)
Here's a breakdown of the patio

Thanks for your comments!!
Very nice. Too bad we didn't get to see a shot of anything other than the living room though.
I like the owl pillow. Did you make it or find it somewhere?
Lovely living room! I wish we could see more of the apartment too. Based on what we've seen though, I'm sure it's lovely. :)
@Wyatt.White & @rjzi - I submitted my entry Tuesday the 3rd, and it went up yesterday (Thursday 12th). So it took awhile. Don't despair! :)
Really like the color scheme, the placement of the prints behind the sofa, and the coffee table. Can you tell me where you purchased the danish-modern style lounge chair?
Thanks for posting the extra pictures. Love your bedroom and the pattern on bedspread. It so reminds me of my parents' house in the 1970s (very fond memories). You have an inviting, individual home.
@alainnotebook and @kristin_b here's the rest of the apt:

@tracy333 my husband picked up the Owl pillow while traveling on business in Denmark. See the breakdown here:

I think I have the same sofa!!!! The one I have is by younger and upholstered in a gray fabric that is very "men's wear" looking! Really enjoy this room! Of course I might be a little biased because it has similarities to my own! Nice work! I'm really wanting that dog bed as well!!
I absolutely love your living room. It looks so unique, so modern, and classic at the same style. Looking at the picture, the area does not look like an apartment. Great job! I am stealing the idea of your rug.
Love the carpet - since I have no style, I would probably see it in the store and not like it, but here it really "ties the room together." I also love the couch, the way the art is lined up on the walls, and the coffee table. This is what I want my living room to look like. Except that my dog has spots. :-)
Love it, Joan. Your family had very good taste. There are some people where who seem to think everything modern came from IKEA. I could tell that was no IKEA sofa. If it was, I would own it because it's beautiful. Love your artwork, too. Especially the shoes. What's a grrl to do with 600 sq. ft.
looks great love the doggy bed tre chic !
Can't figure out the curtains. First they're gone and now they're back...
anyhoo- great room and love your use of textiles both the strip-ey counter curtain and the magical re-appearing ones.
Very nice...although I'm confused by the curtains too, or lack of!!!??
We took the first pictures before the curtains were installed
I like the striped rug, but I think it competes with the striped cloth at the (what I'm assuming is) the kitchen bar, and the green striped pillow and the chevron striped pillows on the sofa. I loves me some stripes, but I'd like to see another pattern thrown in as well. Also, love the yellow sliding table who who thingamajig on the sofa, but would like to see an end table at the other end of the sofa. I think it would ground the space better. I must say, best dog bed ever and cute pup!
Oh, sorry, I thought the couch was IKEA, but upon closer examination, I stand corrected :)
Thanks for posting pics of the rest of your space, I love your bed, & the vintage dressers.
Is it within the rules to link to a full tour? The apt is fabulous, but I kinda feel all the rooms should have been provided within the 5 photos. AT needs to really be a bit more clear about the 5 photo rule, as I have noticed other entries as well submitting split screen photos etc. and its not exactly fair to other applicants who have painstakingly selected which photos to use.
With that said, your apt is beautiful and I love the colour scheme. It feels sophisticated and fresh at the same time.
I agree, DESIGNGRATISLONDON. I'm not voting for anyone who links extra pictures, or does the split-screen thing, on principle.
I really like the artwork and the way it's displayed on the wall behind the sofa.
Love this place!
Just saw the pictures, the bedspread and awesome shoe storage did it for me! Voted
