Technical Team Openings

Operations Engineer

Apartment Therapy (including TheKitchn) is looking for an operations engineer to join our team. If you love working on a small team, embrace the DevOps ethos, enjoy automating deployment & management of virtualized environments, and are eager to serve a large and growing audience, we'd love to hear from you.

We deploy Ruby web apps to virtualized servers (currently, on Linode; EC2 may enter the mix soon). We currently use capistrano for app deployment, chef (solo) for provisioning, Scout/NewRelicRPM/Airbrake for monitoring and alerts. We also use other AWS services (CloudFront for CDN; Route53 for DNS; S3 for backups & storage). Our system stack currently includes nginx, haproxy, varnish, unicorn, mysql and redis. You should be familiar with these (or similar) technologies, and be quick and eager to learn (and to teach). You should be ready to actively contribute to helping design systems to support our application & business goals and will be well supported (and appreciated!) by our engineers who currently sometimes don the "ops" hat.

We've bootstrapped our way to our current system, but are ready to hand the keys to a dedicated pair of hands--the first member of our future operations team. Our development/ops team is small and we each play multiple roles. Most of our team works remotely (US-based). You may work from home or from our office in New York City (Soho), but should be comfortable working closely with a mostly-remote team.

Interested? Send a short email to scott@apartmenttherapy.com describing what you will bring to our team along with any relevant links (resume, github profile, linkedin profile, etc).

US-based, US persons only, no recruiters or agencies.

Junior Web Engineer

Apartment Therapy (including TheKitchn) is looking for a junior web engineer to join our team. If you want to work with a small team of experienced web engineers, and are eager to serve a large and growing audience, we'd love to hear from you.

At Apartment Therapy we help people make their homes more beautiful, organized and healthy by connecting them to a wealth of resources, ideas and community online. With an audience quickly approaching 10 million unique monthly visitors and over 50 million page views per month, our bootstrapped business is growing rapidly. We need another pair of hands to continue improving our sites and tools for our readers, our writers and our advertisers.

You should have some experience with both the front-end and back-end (ideally Ruby) of the web stack, and be quick and eager to learn (and to teach). Specifically, you will work closely with our creative services team and senior developers to craft and maintain mini-sites and other high-profile, custom programs (e.g., contests, sharing events, sponsored content).

Our development team is small and we each play multiple roles. Most of our team works remotely (US-based). You may work from home or from our office in New York City (Soho), but should be comfortable working closely with a mostly-remote team.
