Jody's Eclectic Composition

House Call

Name: Jody
Location: Woodside, Queens, NY

When my friend, designer Elizabeth Holmes, trusted my taste to style a photo shoot of one of her cool kitchens, I found the confidence to share my eclectic apartment with Apartment Therapy. I asked her photographer, Yijun Liao, to work with me and highlight some of the unique juxtapositions.

Like my found object art, my apartment is a composition of furnishings from baroque to primitive, of rich colors and textures, comfort and whimsy.

My husband and I bought this 2 bedroom co-op in Queens 3 years ago, which was absolutely liberating. It allowed me to put color on the walls, something I had never done as a renter. The apartment came together with ease, by introducing color harmonies and a few new pieces (rugs!) to our existing furniture, (much of which is vintage, antique, and flea market finds and the occasional treasure picked off the sidewalks of NY).

My greatest challenge was how to house our 46" TV. Nothing I found in any of the shops could accommodate the components, so I chose some reclaimed lengths of Victorian fencing and marble from Olde Good Things, and had them construct shelving based on my design. I love the results, as it complements my antique coffee table, and my taste for rusted, chipped, ornate cast & wrought metal.

Thanks, Jody !
