In the September issue of Martha Stewart Living, the entertaining feature takes us to the Provincetown retreat of New York store owner and expert in all that is découpage John Derian. Built in 1789, the house has developed a patina that fits right into Derian's aesthetic.
Previously renovated in the 1930s, the home needed some practical renovations, but it's historical essence is still present — Derian stripped some of the 80-year-old wallpaper to show off the horsehair and seashell plaster walls! The home is the perfect space to show off Derian's vintage wares and collection. There is even a branch of his store in the home's carriage house.
Because this was the entertaining feature, there is a full menu that is associated with the story — check it out in the September Martha Stewart Living (not currently online).

Perfectly imperfect.
a little toooooooo perfect(?)
i can't tell if i love it or hate it but i do find myself drawn to the 1st picture. beautiful, but not sure about the walls
I recognize that house and will see it soon!
I love the way the bed is made up, so casually that it almost looks messy. You never see beds that look like that in magazine spreads.
uhm.... jd is hot.
SO hot... sigh... sometimes I wish I were a gay man
How much am I loving this bed?
I have that issue..will grab it now. I love the soft 'deteriorating' look of this place. When I say deteriorating, I mean wonderfully aged...not falling apart. Beautiful!
gorgeous house, aged just right, and the guy, yeow! martha's such a tease
Love the idea of it, but the unfinished (so to speak) plaster reminds me a little too much of abandoned buildings.
The unfinished plaster actually reminds me of lead (and who knows what else).
