The September issue of Elle Decor includes a look at musician John Mayer's 2,500 square foot SoHo apartment — designed by Armani Casa.
Though it was probably very expensive (hello, SoHo! hello, Armani Casa!) the home is remarkably ordinary.

Shaw's Original Fir...
this was already on AT weeks ago...the los angeles blog I believe
I would have to say it looks more SoSo than SoHo.
Really, does no one search your own archives before posting?
it looks like a boring hotel room..... Yawn.......
Again, ZZZZZzzzzzzzzz
Thank You! I guess it was in the magazine because it belongs to john mayer. Snooz.
Caught this in the Elle Decor current issue a couple of weeks ago and thought "Is it me, or..." Well, I'm happy to note that I recognize boring and staged when I see it.
...although I do like the Warhol print.
Yawn all you want, stylistically this is right up my alley. I love my dark wood and neutrals. I find the aesthetic calming and, well, grown up. That said, let's call this what it is: product placement. Some celebrities get paid to cart around Vitamin Water etc., for the paparazzi and the whole world to see. Why do I think John Mayer might have seen a little love from Armani/Casa?
He apparently doesn't shop anywhere else. Given his resources, I find that either very odd or very lazy. Either way, Armani Casa managed to get a large portion of their line covered in a single editorial spread in Elle Decor, which is way cheaper than buying 5 pages of ads in the same magazine to spotlight the same items.
How fortuitous for them.
Well, thanks for reposting...*I* didn't see it the first time! I like a lot of the ideas, but altogether, it's too much.
i've been in hotel rooms that are warmer than this home. not sure what it is about this spread. but i guess if you spend your life in hotel rooms you can't tell the difference anyway.
Bland and a little bit douchey. Just like his music.
Boring last month...still boring now. And seriously, doesn't ANYONE at AT cross-check these articles before posting them?!
Souless....
It doesn't seem to have anything to do with his personality/age/interests, etc. (except for the guitar stuck into that one photo like a prop.)
It seems like a hotel room, or a home for a much older person.
For a guy who makes apparently "deep" music, this room is all surface.
Again?
So...nobody lives there.
Holy repost. Don't any of the AT folks read their own website? I always think it's weird that apparently they don't. I mean if I have time to read the whole website, it just seems plausible that they should have a greater interest in content?
That wall art is terrible.
again .. i guess AT has posted it again because it drew a lot crowd last time .. offcourse with vrey bad feedback
some of you readers just suck the very life and soul out of the enjoyment of reading this site. it is very predictable and irritating. maybe the re-post was intentional, maybe it was a mistake. why spend your precious time posting nasty remarks? just move on! i for one appreciate the passion that the staff put into their work. thank you AT for bringing beauty into my life.
i find his music and his apartment both uninspiring.
I usually slam people for being negative, but I too just do not understand the appeal of John Mayer-or his Apartment. Both seem so boring, bland and uninspired. This spread in Elle Decor took room staging to a whole new level (the guitar against the sofa. lol)
That really doesn't look like anyone lives in the home. I doubt it looks ANYTHING like that most of the time. Notably, those armchairs seem SO uncomfortable....not like the kind of place a youngish musician and his friends would hang out...
This again? Wasn't this just posted last week?
Taxidriver,
We ALL appreciate the beauty AT brings into our lives. Which is why this post doesn't belong here now, nor did it two weeks ago:

I agree that the site's writers put a lot of passion into their work. It's the editor's job to ensure that content is accurate, not repetitive, and interesting to readers. Anyone who read the comments from the original post would have seen that repeating it was likely to evoke the same (overwhelmingly negative) response.
Usually I swoon over stars' apartments, mansions, etc. But not this one. More yawns.
I'd like to see what John Mayer's place looked like before he was famous. Probably had much more soul.
Again with the John Mayer Apartment?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought "This guy has so much bread and manages to find someone who decorates his place with so little elan?"
Yawn, yawn, and yawn. I'm asleep.
Yeah this place doesn't strike me as that magnificent at all...
to be honest, i like the clean, simple and minimalist style, I like the brightness of the whole place. I wouldn't be so minimalist myself, but still...
My first thought was.. oh wow, john mayer shops at ikea (plain coffee table, paper lantern over the dining table)..but it's not ikea.. it's frikking armani casa.. they totally ripped him off eh?!
Armani Casa, Fendi Casa, Alexander McQueen Luggage are just examples of how fashion brands coming up with new ways of introducing "luxury" and "brand consciousness" where there is really no need for it. I mean for God's sake, who in their right mind buys a sofa with Fendi F print all over it? EEKS!
P.S. I love the plants. I love the orange lantern. I hate the bed runner.
Other than the guitar, which could be anyone's, where is the spirit of the customer (in this case John Mayer) in this dwelling? There are some lovely pieces but to me it looks soul-less instead of soulful. Perhaps they existed but were removed for the photo shoot? (which I think we see all too often these days in print media!)
Looks like a case of DIY decorating gone wrong. You have the money, hire a decorator.
meh
Ha ha, it looks like a girl's apartment decorated entirely from West Elm.
What musician keeps a guitar just leaning against the living sofa where it can easily fall over or get banged? And where is his amp?
I agree with the above posts: this room looks phoney.
Wow I really expected John Mayer's apartment to be a lot funkier and hip. It's just so "blah." It doesn't have any personality.
I agree with the majority here. This apartment needed to be vamped up for John Mayer. It does look like they tried to hard or the decorator just used things from Armani and didn't have enough design talent to pull off using such fine furniture in this space. AT is not to blame for this, What's up over at Elle Decor? Oh yeah, sell mags. Throw talent, taste and style out the window. Just find a celebrity, furniture sponsor and call the photogs. Bam, what another one fly off the shelves for those who are star struck wanting to see yet another boring celebs home.
This space looks like every other famous designer, its all starting to look the same. Who sets the standards these days anyway.
Maybe Elle Decor needs to host a design challenge and post those apartments. Let's see some new talented designers who are challenging the norm. Pick Me! Pick Me!

It really doesn't look like a home that John Mayer would live in. It lacks character. He seemed like the type of guy that would live in a hip loft with brick walls and vintage furniture. It looks like a hotel room. He hired the wrong interior designer. He needs to redecorate his pad and hire a designer who understands his/ her clients personality and lifestyle.
