Dear readers, you probably know that I don't own a television, but this Sunday night I'm going to be pulling my computer over to someone's house who does to watch the new Design Star season opener and help host the conversation on Twitter along with Heather Armstrong, aka Dooce.
In fact, you may also know that I've never watched Design Star before, so this is going to be very interesting for me. I guarantee you a no-holds barred commentary from minute one.
Along with joining the grand poobah Twitter host for the show, Heather, I'm also going to be giving away the Big Book of Small, Cool Spaces every fifteen minutes, sooooooo
see you all Sunday night for Design Star under the hashtag
for a truly modern experience.
Best, Maxwell

Sunday night it is, cannot wait to see what's in store.
Hold on, not so fast, maxwell. You don't own a tv, is there a past post that you explain this "lifestyle choice"? Not even a tv and dvd player to watch a classic film?
I hope it's better than last season.
Dooce's blog for HGTV has been so disappointing. I wish the network would find a better use for her.

they cancelled the wrong girl (where the hell was clive with "your show has been cancelled?"). the blond was running herself down and daring them to fire her. she should have gone for being self-defeating. she didn't seem to want it.
i liked the lemongrass colored room far better than the winning room. of course, i liked the one with too many different fabrics the very best.
How could you even tell???? They spent like, a nanosecond showing the end result rooms.
I am, so far, not a fan of the changes in the format, especially the change to the white box challenge.
But DO like that they added professional assistance... but ironically, they added it to their season of the most seasoned cast ever.
And why did the guy who did not like his room not speak up?? Because he didn't, that woman won! Ugh. Not sure it's worth DVRing.
I missed the "ringer" of previous seasons... you know, that one person everybody KNEW from the beginning just had to be "voted off the island" first, thus saving face for the more serious candidates.
I missed Clive, too.
So, of previous winners, David Bromstead is the only one who still has a real show. Kim what's-her-name seems to have been cancelled. The next winner never had a show -- I think she had a baby instead, but if she wasn't going on, maybe her "runner-up" should have been given the chance... he was good, too! And then there is the tatooed wonder from last year, who seems to be getting a series of specials instead of a regular show. It's a tough market! (Oh, that would be US!)
I agree about the nano-second look at the finished rooms.
Many HGTV design shows do that. I'd also like to view the completed project at the same angles that show the "before" images instead of the artsy-schizoid-hand-held-camera shots.
And David Bromstead? ...*sigh*
This show has gone to hell in a handbasket. Every single HGTV "personality" has become mega annoying. My HGTV addiction is waning fast these days.
I just watched the first episode last night. I didn't find any of the rooms overwhelmingly great but how is it that Nina won? I thought her room was awful with all those paper umbrellas all over the place.
Jennifer Bertrand the winner of Season 3 had a short lived series called Paint Over. She did have a baby with serious health issues, so she probably didn't have time to do a show. Too bad, I really liked her.
Love David Bromstad. Not crazy about Kim Myles. And don't know what they were thinking calling Antonio the winner.
Can we spot Design Star??
It's PA-THE-TIC!!!!
Contestants and judges are incapable of producing any work close to design.
It's a shame for our profession.
