wicked artist to interview--thanks!
I LOVE Jonathan Adler. Thanks so much for this post. I'm also addicted to eBay and can't believe I've never thought to look for misspellings (did you intentionally spell it incorrectly - too funny). Brilliant idea from a brilliant man!
i love that his office is decorated the same way his stores are. he's really in touch with his own style.
Love him... and not surprised that his office is cool... I'd be surprised if it wasn't!
I think his kitschy 70s thing is just about done.
I do not get the appeal of his designs. At all.
Totally dig his office! Jonathan Adler rules!
I really do not understand the appeal of this guy. Every room he does looks like the same kitschy, '70s room as the one before.
I love the sense of humor in all elements of this office! Jonathan Adler seems like such a warm, sweet person.
'I do not get the appeal of his designs. At all.'
livc--I could not agree more.
Love his work when used sparingly, like a very strong spice. Otherwise, to me, it feels like someone's cool grandparents apartment from 1965.
Where is the originality? I'm annoyed.
I couldn't agree more.......the guy wears white pants everyday..boringgggggggggggg
Love the seahorse lamp!
Love this! And that seahorse lamp is going to be mine the second it comes out!
Ditto on the seahorse lamp -- wonderful.
fabulous! Love this guy.
"Love his work when used sparingly, like a very strong spice. Otherwise, to me, it feels like someone's cool grandparents apartment from 1965."
I think that's what he's going for.
I love him.
LOVE IT .. But hey I' am from the 60's saving my SS to get the bananas,!!
I love his "aw shucks" personality and his demented-preppy appearance.
But, his decorating style: OY. TchotchkesR-US: FEH!
I have yet to understand the enthusiasm for this guy.
Thanks for this. I am in love with his designs. And he keeps coming up with such great new things--loving the seahorse lamp and the banana vase!
I love Jonathan Adler. Yes, his stuff is best in small doses. Although, I'd give my eye teeth for one of his tufted sofas...
Yes, he grew up with that 60's decor and evidently loved it.
I think I read in one of Simon's books that Jonathan's parents or grandma's house is still decorated that way...
Someday, when I can afford it, I'll have the Jonathan Adler giraffe lamp and sconces. LOVE THEM!!
I also love the Ruben Toledo marriage certificate. So beautiful.
Nice article, really complete.
Thank you for posting our link!
I think Jonothan Adler is very 21st century. It's retro but definitely with his own wonderful spin. Love this peek into his office!
I agree he is done. I visited his website and saw absolutely nothing I liked. Well I do want the C.Jere wall art, but thats not a creation of his. So again, he is overrated like Whitney Houston.
I dream of being able to afford JA's designs! Everything is so beautiful!
This guy looks like Ellen.
Loooove that ping pong table!
Makes me think we need to drag ours out for a match...
Living in Israel i have no idea who Jonathan Adler is, but this home does look a lot like my parents home in the sixties and seventies, it has the same teak wood, wall unit, and the same teak wook table. I like it because it reminds me of my childhood, but i can not say that it is inspiring. Especially the triangled rug in colors that match only the very kitch "love" pillow because it does not match with anything else in the room. This style looks old and lacks spirit and is often just kitch (the bananas with the flowers, the horns, and the walrus). some kitch can be artistic when it is used as what it is but here it is not so.
I happen to love J. Adler's designs, but I'm from southern California, where there are plenty of open air/ ranch style homes that really complement his designs. Although if you ever happen to stay at the Parker in Palm Springs, you may OD on Jonathan Adler. It's kitschy and fun; yet definitely not for everyone!
