The only problem with the adorable, cheap Ikea duvet covers is that they do indeed, feel cheap. I tried one out for the fab pattern and even with nice sheets (yes, including a great topsheet), you can feel the low, low threadcount coming through. Sorry to be the buzzkill!

I'm disappointed by the above review but believe it; a queen set for $20? What else would one expect? The print is cute. I wish that extremely affordable bedding didn't come in such a cute pattern or, in a perfect world, there could be two versions for those who do/don't care about price/feel.

I know I'm in the minority here, but i absolutely LOVE low thread count sheets. My all time favorite sheets, are the uber cheap ones they sell at ikea for like 3 bucks that are something like 70 thread count. After a few washings, there's nothing better.

I've had five or six IKEA duvet covers that have been incredibly soft and snuggly. My husband and I were at IKEA this weekend and were also drawn to this pattern, but when I touched it... yuck! It wasn't soft at all. Neither were some of the other ones we liked. So we went home empty handed. But there was a really soft, pretty duvet cover in a wheat pattern (sorry, couldn't find a picture on the IKEA website) that is about fifty bucks... we're waiting for it to go on sale.

I'm sold. I have two young cats that destroyed my last duvet cover...so while they were kittens I swore to not purchase any more high end bedding. I then bought an IKEA duvet cover and have loved the feel and the way it has held up. I tend to clean to duvet often and like the way it holds up to wahing. It is fading in the light though, but I can't say that a higher end brand wouldn't do the same.

Oh no! I need 250 thread count or higher (preferably 400)...otherwise its like sleeping between sandpaper sheets!

on the blanket ikea-sheets-suck issue: i got some 300 thread count ikea sheets years ago; they're perfect for summer, keep a nice smooth texture despite being washed at least a hundred times, and have kept a nice ice blue color. love for under $40.
although, for the most part, i gotta agree: anything less than 250 tc is not going to cut it. i saw this post and got all excited. sad times!

i have different sheets from IKEA and most of them a supersoft, durable and even better qality (i a strong believer in "wash bedding on high temperature once a week") than my linen sheets that where obscenly expensive.
but i also have one pair of sheets that is harsh and feel cheap. i really need to touch the sheeds before bying at IKEA.

It is possible to buy soft sheets at Ikea. You just need to make sure to touch each sheet there to make sure. Even if they are similar thread counts, they can still feel very different from each other.
Also, they sometimes offer thread counts above 200. You just have to look carefully.
Also, I find their Sova flat and fitted sheets to be nice and soft. Those also come in monochromatic colors for those who dislike patterns.

As I understand it we've all been a bit hypnotized re thread count. Sadly, the quality of the cotton counts too :-) I tend to like around 400 but only if it's higher quality cotton. The problem with the stuff you see floating around is that the cotton is poor quality and often coated to make it feel soft; once it's washed it turns pilly and nasty. Be careful not to fall under the thread count spell...
