- Inspiration for my palette:
- The combination was inspired by a painting my aunt did that hangs in that room. I love trying bold combinations of color, and I've always loved the juxtaposition of teal and orange, and finally got the courage to use it in my 1930s bungalow!
- Colors used in my room
- The dominant colors are a light burnt orange and greyish teal.
- Tips for using color successfully
- If going with bold colors on your walls, don't try to match all the accessories in the space to the exact color of your wall. Using more neutral tones in the rest of the space, or bring in subtle shades of the wall color into the decor.

Room for Color
I love this so much! I have a turquoise living room and orange lamps, and I always thought those colors look great together. This is particularly warm and inviting, and I love the glow of your lamps against the orange wall. I never would have thought of doing two toned walls, but with the chair rail, it looks clean and you don't have to decide which one to do! Great job!
I'm very confused, I think this room is phenomenal with the white lightly patterned curtains that are only in one of the photos. Not so sure about the orange patterned window treatments within the context of this room. I'll give it a vote for the white curtain photo, I love the two toned bold wall color choices.
Beautiful room! Where is your sofa from? Is it the same one in both pictures?
My favorite so far. I like how it has two colors going for it.
Aw, yeah, I'm with Noelle153. I loooved the first photo -- it's really simple and sophisticated -- so the sudden appearance of the loud pillows and curtains bummed me out. There's just a lot going on now.
Noelle153 and akay: You both have it right! It's actually my room, and I added the lighter, double paneled curtains just recently. Those funky roman shades were there when I bought the house, and it was such a relief to get rid of them finally. I didn't realize until after the fact that I had accidentally uploaded the photos of my older room! Lesson learned!
What a great room! The colors are so warm and cozy and yet still bright. The walls look fantastic and the pops of color on the couch are a great balance.
I didn't notice the difference in photos until I read the comments. Regardless..love the colors. But I do like the light colored curtains better.
I love the doubled paneled curtains. All the ones I've seen are heavy. Could you please tell me where you bought them?
Both panels [the sheers and solid cream with scalloped detail] are Ikea. I use those same sheers in two other rooms because they're so delicate and versatile. The other panel I chose because it has a hint of teal in the detailing that works with the color in the room and I love drapes with grommets- so much easier to operate. The total cost for this double window treatment was only $140, which is probably why I love it most!
I spy a little calico in one of the photos. :)
Very pretty and cool painting. I like the newer look better also.
I like it & this is just the second one I've clicked 'favored' so far.
AMiller, it is the same sofa, but with different fitted slipcovers [one a nubby gray and the other a canvas white]. The sofa is from Ikea [Kivik] and the covers are so affordable, changing the look of the room is so simple!
I love your aunt's painting.
Thank you, vintage birthday! She's an artist based out of the Philippines and Germany, Sandra Torrijos. I'm so fortunate to have her art all throughout my home.
Super cute!
Tried voting for you, but I keep getting an error message- you should get them to fix that asap! Good luck!
