Name: Josh
Location: Uptown - Dallas, Texas
As a recent college graduate, I have a limited budget to work with. I have found most of my furnishings at thrift stores, salvation army, etc. I always enjoy fixing up and bringing new life to my pieces, by giving it new upholstery, and a new coat of paint or stain.
My apartment is full of projects I've done myself, from building the upholstered headboard, to building the planter on my patio. While my main inspiration is mid-century modern, I always enjoy having a mix of pieces to create a nice timeless style.
As a graphic designer, almost all of the artwork on the walls is my own. What I like most about my home is that every piece has a story to be told. When looking for an apartment, I knew I wanted an older apartment that had character to complement my growing collection of retro furniture. Since I'm not allowed to paint the walls, I like to use bright colors and bold patterns. Upstairs in the bedroom, I stuck with mostly black and white colors for a more tranquil feel.
Thanks, Josh!

Great finds and an awesome job!
So nice! Really impressive.
Nice work- looks very well put together, clean, and comfortable.
I'm a hugh fan of MCM so I like the same but I'm tired of seeing the over-size letters. Just personal taste.
Like the 'back-yard' and the way the bedroom is decorated/designed. Very nice.
Tasteful but also personal. Nice work! I'd be interested to know which of these pieces you've refurbished.
love everything, the bed, the bad old horror movie poster and it all looks so easy to tidy-up!
You did a great job. Love your style.
love it. where's the green area rug in your living room from?
Wow, this is lovely. So fresh and inviting.
Bravo! This is great, well done! :)
Nice place, Josh - I'm about to move into Uptown myself, on a post-graduate school budget. I'd love to know where in the area your good spots are for thrifting and finding such great pieces!
The rug is fab!
"JEEEEZ KID"!!!!!!!!!!! :) My first thought! Beautiful job...great lamp/sidechair combo!!
absolutely love your style. such a great space! great job :)
The arrangement on and above the glass console table, my favourite feature. Not too much, just right. Well done.
Wow! so lucky that you have very obviously found your calling in life at such an early age. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff - perhaps a full tour? [not so subtle hint there AT folks]
Really beautiful! As a graduate student myself, I'm completely inspired by this! Perhaps you should also consider being a graphics artists and interior designer...? :)
I second that!
You have a great sense of style, a career for you in design for sure.
Nice job!
Fantastic job!!!
I wanna know what thrift stores HE goes to.
PS. I want that coffee table.
You have a great style. Did you make that black stick sculpture? No I am not talking about the tree branch. If so what did you make it with?
This looks better than many of the other places stocked with DW(our)Reach classic furniture cliches. The 'M' works for me mainly because it's NOT mounted on the wall.
Hooray for a fellow Dallasite! Great job editing your decor. I love all the natural light and the calming, serene vibe your funky little place gives off. Hope to see a full tour soon.
Don't apologize for your budget or your timetable. You've managed to assemble a beautiful home that someone could be proud of if it had taken them 30 years. I suspect that your challenge will be how to avoid clutter as you keep spotting desirable items; I hope you have good weeding skills. Thanks for sharing, and good luck.
Love the duvet cover, where is it from?
Lovely home. Too be honest it looks better than the ones put together with an unlimited budget. I love your style and I think you may have a career an interior designer if you ever decide to switch careers. Well done!
Btw, where did you get your sofa? I like it.
this is what AT is all about for me -- always hoping to see small inspiring spaces done on a budget by people who are busy with life but find time to make their spaces elegant & organized. impressive.
Yikes.. I just posted a comment about Kevin's MetroLoft studio remarking on the pieces I saw that were duplicates of ones that I have handled as an antique picker and how well they'd been use to add affordable function and swank style. Now, here's Josh doing the same thing...in posts I found back to back! Oh, and they both used the pieces in settings with more flair and panache than I have yet to achieve. Is some cosmic decorating lesson being taught here? HMM..
Anyway, Josh and I have both had the starburst clock, the chartreuse and dark green '50's plaster lamp, the white side chairs and the other sidechair that he covered in the green pattern and the wire out door settee. Oh, and the coffee table. The point is that these are items that can be found with persistence, aren't terribly expensive and as we can see here can look pretty darn cool. Thanks, Josh.
Oh as to the wall letter. Some of us remeber seeing this for the first time in the "60's on the British tv spy show The Avengers. TK in the apt, pad really of Tara King, the 3rd leading lady on the show. And, of course Mary's M on the Mary Tyler Moore show. Personally, the only wall leter I would ever use is a duplicate of that one as Tribute to "Mare" and her fabulous studio pad.
You've made a beautiful, comfortable home.
