Name: Josslyn
Location: Russian Hill, San Francisco, California
A single girl's castle in the city. Living in San Francisco is a magical experience all on its own. Still, everyday I get to come home to this apartment and feel like a grown-up princess sitting in the middle of everything she has ever wanted. I really am living the dream. Well, my dream and that's the only one that matters.
This apartment is not like others. Sure, it has all the charms of an old San Francisco flat - bay windows, gorgeous hardwood floors, French doors, elegant archways, original built-ins and delicately preserved details, like an old phone still intact in its cubby. However, these luxuries didn't come at the expense of space (I have lots of it) or neighborhood (I'm in the posh Russian Hill). There are also three massive closets and two are walk-ins. In the middle of San Francisco, this is a mind-blowing feature. I float between all three while getting ready. It's an indulgence that makes me feel like a spoiled brat everyday.
My design style is inspired by two simple things: what makes me happy and where I'm from, the great state of Texas. It's a place full of quirky character and you'll find elements of that all over my home.
I think of my castle like Batman's house. By day, I work in the creative department of an advertising agency. By night, I'm a Muay Thai fighter. It's a constant struggle between my professional self and my athletic self, as seen by the fight shorts hidden behind a closet door and boxing gloves filled to brim in an old hamper.
Thanks Josslyn!

White Enamel Flatwa...
So beautiful! I love the yellow in the kitchen, the neutral tones everywhere else, and the excellent organization of everything. Your place is calm and uncluttered but has so much personality and style.
I appreciate the poetic nature of the write up, but "boxing gloves filled to the brim" of what? You mean the "old hamper filled to the brim with boxing gloves"?
And how come we didn't see any of these qualities?
Beautiful. I enjoyed the yellow in the kitchen.
The large mirror seems out of place.
I wish I could see some of the elements mentioned in the write-up and a closer look at some of the art - like whatever is above her bed. It looks cute and intriguing, but I can't really tell.
Poshette "Poshie" Van Posh's living room wall color is nice.
Love it! I vote for a whole tour!
I'd love to know the rent on this place. I'm guessing at least 2K. I had a similar apartment in the same neighborhood. After 8 years with sky-high high rent, I moved back to Texas this spring. It was nice while it lasted.
Sorry to be snarky, but having an expensive apartment in an expensive city with expensive seeming furniture isn't all that creative, impressive or inspiring. I live in SF and can appreciate the sentiment of the write up, but I thought AT was about creatively utilizing space. This just comes across as smug. "Look what I have! San Francisco is just so flippin' great, amirite????"
This post is one big bragfest.
Ugh.
I have to agree with @jenini86 and @ElFay.
This has to be the most incredibly insufferable post I've read on AT in all my years of visiting (and, usually, doting on) this website.
Josslyn could use a big 'ol dose of humble. What a smug little post. UGH.
Maybe she's just satisfied with her life? I think that's great! If you're awesome, and your life is awesome - good.
isn't it funny how people can read the same words and come to different conclusions? i don't get "insufferable" or "smug" or "bragfest" from josslyn's words, not at all. what i get from this post is a list of things she is grateful for, that she enjoys about her home. and i am glad she recognizes those good things and has them. wish i could say so many good things about the apartment i currently rent.
josslyn - enjoy your home. it is very pretty (i love the yellow walls, the light, the built-ins ...)!

The apartment looks nice. But is Josslyn aware that "spoiled brat" is a bad thing?
Yes, spoiled brat is a bad thing, and sorry, your apartment is boring (short of the fun yellow kitchen). San Francisco IS an amazing city, and your place doesn't seem to capture any of the fun or energy or diversity that I love about the place I've called home for over 21 years.
Wait. That's it?! I want to see more of this castle in the middle of the city (my favorite one at that)!
Wow! Read the comments. Okay..? I guess it is all about perspective. I didn't read that Josslyn was coming off as privledged, I read that she was grateful. Seriously people knock it off with all the hating. I guess some people are just a bunch of jealous hypocrites. LOVE your place Josslyn and I want to see more. The 5 pictures are not enough. And yes, I admit, I'm jealous. I would love your home in that prime location with that sense of style. But I can be jealous and supportive at the same time. ;)
written like the voiceover intro to a tween fiction novel. Waiting for it to be followed by "little did I know, that summer I'd be visited by a very special guest... a ghost! That experience would turn my whole life upside-down. I had to draw on all my inner strength, beauty, charisma and money (of which I'm lucky enough to have buckets of each) to keep from going crazy. But I know I'll get there in the end, because I'm a fighter. Did I mention I'm kind of a bad-ass? Also, I can speak some other languages and regularly travel the globe to buy shoes "
Hi, I'm Josslyn. Thanks for all your nice comments. Y'all are sweet as pie, and I really appreciate it. I wish AT would have let me submit more than five photos, but that's the deal, folks. To all the not-so-nice commenters, I have worked very hard to build a life and home that I love. I'm not going to feel bad about that for one second. Not even a millisecond.
You're right, I need a big 'ol dose of humble so I can stop swinging from the chandeliers in my one bedroom apartment and asking my preacher father for an early dip into my trust fund. Last I checked, AT is a community of people who love home spaces, not personal bashing. Let's take it to the ring for that, honey.
Writing as a former creative partner of Miss Josslyn – who happens to be one of the most creative, sweet, humble, happy and inspiring people I have ever met (just sayin') – congrats on a landing such a great apartment and creating a life you love! You deserve it girl!!
ps. I have always loved your love of Texas!
I love how this is an apartment decorating blog and people are getting all negative and nasty on it. Um, hello. It's a 1 bedroom apartment in San Francisco people. Josslyn's proud of that. It's not like she's got Louis Vuitton trunks and Hermes wallpaper up.
I'm sorry if your life is full of Billy Bookcases from Ikea, but don't go hating on others because you don't necessarily agree with their taste of furniture or their writing style. Clearly your outlet for anger is here versus somewhere more meaningful.
Don't mess with Texas.
love the apartment and the girl who lives in it. if you few mean ones only knew. she's the type of girl who'd share her only cookie with a stranger if she thought it'd brighten someone else's day. i hope you feel ashamed of your rudeness. it's very unbecoming. why bother with it, anyway? it only comes back. and it stings when it does.
Josslyn is sugar and spice and everything nice. All you haters need to get a life. /end rant.
I don't think that any of us who live up here are quite comfortable with anyone self-anointing "the posh Russian Hill?"
Good luck in your new home, Josslyn. Please don't let your zip code go to your head, and we'll all get along just fine.
