Name: Julia (4)
Location: Scotch Plains, NJ
Color Inspiration: At the tender age of 18-months, a few months before Julia's baby sister made her arrival, I moved Julia, now 4-years-old, into this room. The nursery Julia moved from was a serene, calm and muted space. I wanted to create a "big girl room" that would be colorful, fun and rooted in some history. Julia is the first American-born in our Russian immigrant family and we strive to keep her heritage alive. Many of the toys and books in her room are from my own childhood.
Color Inspiration continued: Besides my sentimental attachment to folk themes, I happen to love the aesthetic of it as well though I mix it quite a bit with the modern looks I also enjoy. I am also drawn to various bird imagery. Something about the idea of my home being a cozy and safe "nest" for my babies appeals deeply to me.
Tip for Using Color: Don't match, coordinate! Pay close attention to what inspires you and try to recreate it in your home. Meaningful items that don't seem to "match" the space have a way of fitting in anyway
I used to think a good color scheme was all about matching. Nowadays, I find well coordinated but completely mismatched items to be so much more appealing. A ton of my inspiration comes from AT, of course.
Colors Used: Oranges, Reds, Blues, Greens... all colors welcome!
Thanks for your colorful entry Victoria and good luck!

beautiful! A room that is playful, inspiring, and relaxing at the same time. well done.
Gorgeous! I love what you have to say about coordinating rather than matching. Before I read that I was thinking how cohesive this look is, yet you could add new things or colors and it will still look great.
Lovely inspiration - thanks for sharing!
Love, Love, Love. It's so stimulating.
Love it!
Where did you get that amazing mushroom dollhouse?
I voted! Love it!!!! :)
Can you please tell how you got that outfit framed?
Thank you for the kind comments. I really value the feedback from this community.
psychobabble: the mushroom dollhouse can be found at online toy store Magic Cabin
Vicky19: the framed outfit (the one she came home from the hospital in) is in a shadowbox I got at a local Michaels. The backing is covered in fabric to which I pinned the outfit with white glass-head sewing pins
I love your creation! What a childhood! :)))
Lovely room!
Where did you find that cute owl picture?
What a beautiful room--this would inspire any little girl! I love the way you worked in items of your own childhood!
beautiful room.Everything was created with big love
love!!!
The room is not only beautiful and comfortable, it looks very functional. It seems like a good room for games and for the child's learning.Very creative. I'm impressed.
What a great room! Where did you find the rug?
thefairy: I got the owl print a long time ago on a site called "Izzy and Ash"
julie&Leah: the rug is from Anthropologie
The structure to this room is so unique and you play it up with all the details. I also love the fact that the theme to the room has a dual purpose of teaching your child about her heritage along with functioning as a girl's room, and above all else utilizing such a unique space.
Awesome! Can I move in? :)
