- Inspiration for my palette:
- I didn't want to paint the window trim white, but I also didn't want a dark room. I chose to put a light grey on the walls to offset the dark trim and to work with the yellow tone of the hard wood floors. The inspiration for the color palette of jewel tones --reds, golds, greens and turquoise came directly from my collection of antique Turkmen skull caps.
- Colors used in my room
- Wall color is Benjamin Moore's Owl Grey
Jewel tones including reds, mustard yellows, and pops of blue and green.
- Tips for using color successfully
- I wanted a balance of light and airy and warm. By choosing a neutral gray on the walls, I had more freedom to introduce the strong colors from the carpet and the suzani. The expanse of windows and the mirror on the opposing wall, helped to bring in light to offset the deep dark colors.

Room for Color
Hi there, just had to pop in when I saw your yellow and white lampshade. I am a fellow entry and have that same exact lampshade. You can see it in picture three and four of my entry. Great Taste! :)
I like this, it reminds me of my room with the bay window and stained wood trim. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/suzannes-color-in-harmony-room-room-for-color-contest-178843
Love the boho vibe especially the rug.
Love it!
This room is BEAUTIFUL. I love everything about it. I love seeing rooms that look lived-in, have so much personality, and ofcourse style. The accessories and pops of colour are amazing without being too feminine (sometimes hard to do with pink, I think). Amazing job.
I agree with Jasmine - this room is a great example of using pink in a way that is vibrant, modern and not one bit Barbie.
I reeeally like the display case/buffet that separates the eating area from the living room. Is that a single piece, or is it a display case stacked atop something?
Wow. I love the white with the jewelled tones.
Yes, Sturgeon Bay!! My hometown! Love your Modern Historic home.
Beautiful!
Beautiful!
The display case is from an old jewelry store. It's one unit. The glass top is all scratched up....the story goes that the jeweler would prove that his diamonds were real by scratching the countertop. I was lucky enough to score it off my sister!!

Love it! Especially the beautiful suzani on the round table. Also, the lampshade is gorgeous.
That room divider is genius. A divider, display case, shelves, and counter all at once. Gorgeous!
What a lovely, relaxing spot to have a chat. That vintage cabinet/counter is awesome.
Yay for Wisconsin!
I especially love the bay window area. The woodwork, furnishings, textiles, colors are all very appealing. I would like to see a house tour.
