Name: Kai
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
We live in a Victorian row house in the city. A 110 square feet rectangular space is our 14-month-old son Kai's room. It gets beautiful southern light during the day which we love. As with most old homes, the room lacks a closet so the first challenge was to figure out storage for clothes, linens and toys.
Our second challenge was to squeeze in a small daybed. The daybed was our 'must-have' piece in the nursery. It allowed one of us to sleep right next to Kai when he was younger and now serves as a cozy spot for nursing and reading. The space under the daybed has proved useful for storing seasonal clothes and linens. Finally, we wanted to have enough empty space in the centre of the room, so that Kai could play and wander about.
We started by painting the peachy walls and ceiling (remnants of the previous owner) with a very light grey (Snowfield by CIL). Our next step was to find some hits of colour along with a touchy of vintage whimsy. The transportation themed prints fit the bill perfectly. I also fell in love with the Japanese Echino helicopter fabric designed by Etsuko Furuya and got pillows made by a talented artist on Etsy. While scouring Etsy, I came across the scrabble pillow and the vintage rug. The teak dresser was brought in from our guest room and then recently we added the Ikea Stuva cabinet. Not sure how we feel about the Stuva - it looks a bit like a refrigerator in the middle of the bedroom - but it is very functional!

Thanks for the link to the Scrabble pillow! What a great find.
Love the name Kai, always have... but the room needs a little more color IMO.
I'm having trouble with the Muchachabonita Etsy link. Says page doesn't exist, and searching within Etsy doesn't bring up anything either. Have any other way to contact? I like that rug.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your floors. They are simply gorgeous.
Thanks so much for sharing! I too have a narrow Victorian in Toronto without closets. This kind of post is very useful, informative and inspirational for me down the road when we start a family.
AND I simply love the floors!
Awesome! Clean, simple and elegant.
The colour combinations in those pillows are just stunning. Too bad the etsy shop is out of stock!
Thank you for the comments! Theplumathree, Muchachabonita is closed now and i have not other way of contacting the seller. Blangwagon, if you email Nagisa at Makura, she can order in some fabric and make it for you.
The racks as bookshelves are a great idea. I LOVE those floors too, could you post more details about them? Thank you!
h again, the room had original pine sub-floors but the knots in several places had given way. we got hold of some left over engineered floor (originally from Floorworks in Toronto) that we put down. hope this helps!
I love the room. So clean and soothing. Where did you find the Eames style baby/kid rocking chair?
I love this! And for those of you looking for Muchachabonita on etsy, well this person is selling the same rug:http://www.etsy.com/listing/82105072/reduced-alphabet-rug-small-wool-kashmiri
