Name: Kamini
Location: Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India
I moved back to my country India, in the summer of 2006, after a 23 year stay in the US. Being a designer by profession, I brought back some of my American design sensibilities with me, some of which are highly impractical here in India.
Remodels are never easy, working within a limited existing architectural framework comes with its own set of problems. Blending my Indian heritage with my love for sleek, modern Western design also proved to be a challenge.
I love color and texture, so in that sense using colorful Indian textiles and flooring options was easy. But I also tend to gravitate towards clean, wide open spaces with little clutter - so trying to accessorize with Indian artifacts and yet keep it simple and clutter free was not easy. I love warm, earthy colors and orange is my absolute favorite color. But I think i finally succeeded in creating a warm, open, inviting home!
Much of the art work you see in the house is done by me. Though not a professional artist by any stretch of the imagination, I do love to paint as a hobby!
Thanks, Kamini!

This is beautiful. You may not be a "professional" artist but you are an artist.
So lovely! This deserves a full tour.
Ooh, they should dedicate a slot in the colour cure to this place, it's gorgeous! I think that Kamini has definitely succeeded in achieving the balance she was after, it is spacious but not sparse on interest. The paintings are really interesting; the 'three women' remind me a bit of Shanti Panchal's pictures and I love the painting with the steps - very clever! ;)
Definitely deserves a full house tour. Very beautiful!
Gorgeous! So rich and warm and inviting. Love it!
So warm and inviting!
loved it! and would have loved to have seen a full tour!i plan to move back to india soon and can understand how confusing it must've been for you to blend the 2 worlds in a way that satisfies your evolved taste :)..am still struggling to define how exactly i'd like my future home to look like and the eclectic mix i've seen here makes me wonder if it might be on these lines! i love charles eames and kalamkari....so god help me.(!)
A beautiful home, so much color and interest, I love incorporating books in decor ..painting with the 2 women on the steps is amazing!
I don't normally like earthy colours, but there is something about the way the colour is put together here that clicks perfectly and just radiates warmth. I would like to see more too, and to know what kind of building you had to work with originally. A feature on design in India would be nice too!
Thank you all. I would love to be considered for a full house tour and be able to share with you all the remaining pictures of my home!
Kamini
I read the location as "hyperbad" and thought - "why would anyone say anything negative in the title of a tour - and these photos are really nice...? oh. I get it now".
Very nice. I love the international tours!
I wish more of the photos showed rooms rather than closeups. But what I can see is beautiful.
Lovely
Absolutely lovely, very individual and full of character and warmth. Add me to the chorus calling for a full house tour!
Very beautiful. I'm in Mumbai, so I guess I know where you're coming from. That artwork is exhibition-quality. How large is your apartment? Do you have the same wall color throughout? And looks like you have a balcony as well- wow!
This DEFINITELY deserves a full house tour!
Love the house and colors, love the ARTWORK! You should be/could be selling, then you'd be a "professional."
Kamini, beautiful home so reflects your personality I think
I would buy your work, lovely!!
More please! I love it all...the colors, the textiles, the copper and other metals. Very well-done. "Yes" to more international house tours.
Oh lovely.. lovely.. S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G. home.. I so so want to see more pics.. i really do!! Kamini.. the style.. the textiles.. the collectibles... all have my heart!! :-)
what is the name/brand of the green paint on the living room/hallway walls?
i'm having a heck of a time finding the right shade.
Deckled-edges....are you asking about the green paint on the library wall? The room with a clock and a charcoal pic on either side and bookshelves? Thats an Asian Paints Royal color which got discontinued, but a color called 'Tree of Life" is very close.
Colorful and warm! lovely!!
