It reminds me of how, on Gilmore Girls, Lane used to hide her CD collection under the floorboards of her bedroom.
This reddish orange is nice with the little bits of blue you have going on. Have you considered painting either the ceiling or the floors white? That might really give added umph to this space. If you're not allowed to paint the floors, how about one or more of your many wooden cabinets and tables? All the brown wood and the red together create a slightly monotonous quality that would be greatly and simply enlivened by some more white or another contrasting color paint. Your pretty bed frame might be another place for paint. Just a thought.

Thank you so much bellsonhopi for the advice. Everything in our room was gifted+refinished by family or bought at a garage sale , even the artwork is my 15 year olds sons!! .. I would totally love new white nightstands, pillows, rugs and more artwork please! After my husband and I took down 4 layers of 100 year old wallpaper off horse hair plaster walls + put on 5 layers of paint and sleeping 3 months in our son's bedroom we did not have the will power to do the floors too :( That was 9 years ago UGh! Honestly I'm just thrilled to be in this contest at all and humbled by all the other entries!
Very nice start with the red paint. I'm sure the place is beautiful and is a work in progress, as all old houses tend to be.
