- Inspiration for my palette:
- I call this my "steampunk room" - we were inspired by old English libraries, but we wanted a more contemporary edge, so we went with a teal instead of bottle green. In lamplight, the room reads very green instead of teal.
- Colors used in my room
- Benjamin Moore "Dragonfly", natural accents (gold and brass), mahogany, charcoal gray (couch fabric)
- Tips for using color successfully
- Don't fight a room's natural tendencies! Painting a dark room in a light color will just make it look dim. Instead, choose a vibrant color to make a dark room feel like a cozy jewelbox.

Love it.
Great room! Can you explain the "steampunk" theme a little? I think I'm missing it.
Beautiful place to relax reading a book with a cup of tea. Nice colours.

@Taylor: their inspiration is an old English library which would go with steampunk. I would agree that it's not very steampunk, but it's a good start. I think they just need to add a few more elements or newer furniture that would feel more steampunk.
I like the wall colour, good start!
Oh my! I was ranting (to myself) about the "fur" thrown on the ottoman and in a second view noticed it's a nice and alive dog.
Beautiful room.
LOL. What you can't see from the photos is that this is also the technology room, where the computer system lives, and the desk is a sort of rustic industrial. "Steampunk" (although that was a little bit of an offhand comment rather than the defining term for the room in my mind) is the combination of the Victorian aesthetics with modern use.
It's a good start, and a very lovely room, but not really very steampunk at all. For that you need some accessories or art that invokes a more futuristic/sci-fi sort of vibe - airships, gadgets, something science related, etc.
I am with ScuttledCuttle - nice and composed room, but I get no steampunk vibe at all from this. Even the "library" theme doesn't come through - maybe the bookshelves need to go floor-to-ceiling? But to call it steampunk is a stretch. It needs brass, mechanized/gadget elements, darker wood.
With such a detailed and ceiling, more streemlined furniture would give it the attention it rightfully deserves. I love the color combo the blue and the white!
Just love this wall color. Amazing to me how different it looks depending upon lighting/time of day.
