Name: Kate & family
Location: Oakhurst neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina
We searched for a year and finally found our diamond in the rough. It has undergone many cosmetic renovations until we found out we were going to have a baby. Then we gutted the house and took nine months to open up walls and make a large common area for everyone to hang out in. We love to have close friends & family over and the new space adds great energy to the party.
Needless to say, we can see our little one and engage with her much easier. We love to repurpose vintage finds and surround ourselves with unique objects. We have transformed and evolved with the house while we slowly gathered the pieces that would surround us and figured out what our needs were. Much of the carpentry work was done by my husband and close friends. We use every room daily so it is important to organize and make sure everything has a spot. We do have a box of really cool vintage treats in the attic that we will rotate in and out of our 1,500 square feet space. Another great feature to our home is our lot. We are three miles from uptown, but have a beautiful wooded lot that extends down to a steep hill. We enjoy it daily on our cedar screened in porch. We love our little gem and the hard work that has made it our home!
Thanks, Kate!

Too many unrelated cushions for my taste.
I love the desk! I'm filing away the "paint each drawer a different color" idea for later use.
Opening the floorplan is nice, but they seem to have a lot of "stuff" on display and it makes the rooms seem small and cluttered to me.
I also was confused by why the medicine cabinet/mirror in the bathroom is over what appears to be the toilet and not the sink? That seems to go against function.
So many pendant lights in that little hall...
Very warm and inviting. Nice job...
I love the second photo, especially the rabbit cushions, on that chair!
i love this place-- it's very sweet and cozy with modern elements. having a cramped windowless apartment in brooklyn, i am supremely jealous. would have loved to have picture of the screened in porch! thank you for sharing.
Oooohh pretty bathroom colour! Very nice. I wonder if adding a light coloured rug in that first pic in the desk are would lighten things up a little?
It's hard to find a focal point in these rooms unless you count the light fixtures. The dining room, in particular, has too much going on. The colors in slide one, especially the carpet, are dingy.
This seems like on of those houses that looks amazing in person. As a terrible photographer, I know that taking pictures of one's own home is a little intimidating when the photographs on this site all seem so professional. I don't think the rooms look dingy. I also love that I can see vacuum tracks; someone actually lives here! And cleans! I should go do the same…
I thought these were the "before" pictures. Sorry!
Cute! I especially love that lighting fixture above the dining table... well, actually, I want to just live in that room. The place is cozy!
I live in Charlotte, 4 miles from uptown---where is Oakhurst?
Cute home! I wish my rental was that cozy--we're more awkward...
I think that dining room is great. Good luck with the new baby!
Hey, it's my old hood! tex20six, Oakhurst is down Monroe Rd, near Elizabeth and Commonwealth neighbohoods. Very cute, lots of little 50s bungalows.
