Get a Fresh Perspective in Just 10 Minutes. Last Monday I spent my 10 minutes at the far end of my kitchen table, opposite to where I usually sit. It was not too hard to imagine the room empty (I moved in a little over a year ago), nor was it hard to slowly rebuild the room (there really is not that much in my kitchen). Instead, sitting there confirmed that I like my stuff, but I am not satisfied with my lighting: The overhead lighting is harsh and makes me uncomfortable, while the the ambient lighting I recently added above my kitchen table makes me happy. It was clear that I needed to come up with an additional lighting solution for the opposite wall to balance out the room and rid me of my dependance on the overhead lighting completely. I decided on under the cabinet lighting on the opposite wall and added it to my list.
Day 5: Select One Project from Your List to Complete this Month. This was a no-brainer for me. I had house guests over the holidays, and I found myself apologizing and embarrassed about the moldy caulk in bathroom. Gross. Time to learn how to recaulk and take on that tub! Day 6: Choose a Piece of Artwork & Get Going on Framing It. I bought a framing Groupon before the holidays with the intention of getting a photo I took of my mama framed, but I had been putting it off. Happy to say I dropped it off last week, and I am looking forward to getting it back so I can create a small gallery wall in my living room. Day 7: Get Your Get–Together Together – Date, Guests, Invites. I am shy about inviting people into my home, but figured this was a good excuse for a girls' night at my apartment. The invites are sent, and I am planning a low–key party with cocktails and tasty treats. Day 8: Weekend Chores – Flowers, Kitchen Cleaning & Make Yourself a Meal I was feeling a little guilty that I had not spent a lot of time on my apartment during the week, but I made up for it over the weekend. My kitchen was not terribly dirty or unorganized, so I gave everything a quick wipe down and spent the extra time tackling a few key projects:
With the help of some handy friends, I installed IKEA GRUNDTAL under cabinet lights and checked it off of my to–do list. What a difference it has made — goodbye bad overhead lighting!
I also organized the area under my sink and reorganized my pegboard (shown at the top of the post).
Sunday night I rewarded myself with a new plant for my kitchen window and with some home cooked comfort food. I made grilled cheese and this recipe for Spicy Tomato Soup. Yum. With Week 2 behind me, I'm feeling pretty good. How are all of you doing? Any major accomplishments this past week? MORE OF KATE'S JANUARY CURE: • Week One (Images: Kate Legere)
