Location: Coral Springs, Florida
I remember when I was studying I had left my parents in charge of my garden (the tiniest garden ever, in fact). The next time I came back home it was dead. My parents obviously had not cared for it. Now, years later, when I come back home I am inspired by what has become of my parents' yard. With a food revolution going on, my dad has been inspired to take matters into his own hands.
He's been growing his garden organically and it's been thriving. I swear, he has learned so many tips (even how to fortify soil naturally with things like pennies) that he could write a book. Actually, he's working on writing one! It's funny because my parents live in a suburb, where you'd be hard pressed to find such an organic garden. He's cultivated heritage fruits and veggies, from berries, papayas, tomatoes, potatoes, bananas, greens, exotic fruits, to rare herbs. Next step, he plans on housing a bee hive. They help us, and we help them by providing a varied and pesticide-free diet! It's been wonderful just stepping outside and picking what we want to cook or simply eat. Our neighbors and friends also get to enjoy what the garden produces, and hopefully in the future we can share with the community as well.
