Name: Katherine & Johnny
Location: Carroll Gardens Brooklyn, NYC
I've lived in this small one bedroom co-op in Carroll Gardens for 5 years. When my fiance moved in last year we set about making it a place we could call ours.
We share a similar aesthetic, though I'm much more cozy oriented than he is. Our goal was to blend modern
and homey. Johnny designs wire chandeliers and lighting and is fairly obsessed with lighting in general, he's decorated a lot of our space with his own designs, as well as some lucky vintage finds.
Thanks Katherine & Johnny!

White Enamel Flatwa...
A lot of food-for-thought for me here, since my own 1br (the first floor of a Philly row home) is basically the same size & layout - albeit with a smaller kitchen, and the fridge sadly right next to the living room which it unavoidably looms over.
The living room and bedroom seem so cozy! I especially love the wallpaper in the living room and the duvet cover. Where are they from??
Grrr...I was really hoping to see a shot that showed that fabulous wallpaper better.
Lots of chandeliers in this home ;)
wow I wish my small one bedroom was that big! good job...
I'm digging the chandeliers. And I love the wallpaper in the living room. I normally don't like a mirror over the sofa but it really works with the bold wallpaper.
Where's the gray couch from?
I'm almost positive the duvet cover is from Target.
This looks so cozy, I would love to come home to this! Would have liked to have gotten a better view of the incredible looking wallpaper though. This is similar to my one bedroom, but in my place there is a door where their sofa is...so I cannot have the same type layout...grrr! I love your sofa and especially those funky lamps. Are they vintage?
Hi, thanks everyone! The white lamps are vintage and I made the lampshades, which I don't recommend doing unless you like having spay adhesive all over you...We got the couch from Macy's and the duvet cover is indeed from Target (dwell studio line). I'll have to look up who made the wallpaper, we found it randomly in a hardware store on the upper east side after weeks of searching in all the obvious places!
LOVE that couch from Macy's. It was in the running when I was picking mine out. It looks so nice here. I agree about the mirror over the couch, too. The green tile in the kitchen is so unexpected! Love this place like crazy. What a great little space you have! "Cozy modern" is how I define my house style, too, and you have really pulled it off here. Well done!
enjoyed your house tour and really hope to see more!
Love the chandeliers! Great job with such a small space.
Love your style!! Where did you get your bed from?
love those lamps
I approve of this apartment! Does Johnny have a website for his lighting?
LOVE the kitchen!
Love your living room! Mine is similar in size. Where did your TV stand come from?
Sorry, just not feeling it at all although I like the kitchen. It just feels a little jumbled, like someone is trying to put together all the different trends in the past few years and it just doesn't work together. But if the people living there love it, that's all that matters.
Love it! Where is that little shelf just beneath the tv from??
:)
Sauceykat, I agree, "jumbled" is the word. There is a LOT going on in the living room, furniture-wise.
Thanks again to everyone for all the feedback.
It's especially exciting see the positive response to Johnny's chandeliers. Admittedly, sometimes the apartment gets a bit full of them! Unfortunately, no website yet but he does have an etsy shop which should have his 2010 stuff on there in the next few weeks.
Let's see. The wallpaper is by Romo, our bed is from IKEA, the orange shelf/cd storage is from A.I. Friedman, not sure of the manufacturer, I think they also carry it at The Container Store and our t.v. stand is from West Elm.
hi - I would love to know what the bedroom paint color is.
(It could be included in a recent post of 'green as a neutral'.
and I live in Carroll Gardens too!
Question... I have the same couch from Macy's... but it looks like yours has two cushions instead of three. Did you have them re-made? If so... can you please, please, please tell me how you did it? I would love to make two seat cushions instead of three (which are always getting messed up when you sit on the couch). THANKS!
I'm surprised to see so much love for that living room. The kitchen, hall, and bedroom are great but the living room is way too cluttered. The thing between the windows needs to go, and the TV area needs to be streamlined quite a bit. Between the fan, all the lamps clamped to the bookcases, and the chandelier, even the ceiling seems cluttered!
@etakcharles -- what's the name of his Etsy shop? If it's somewhere in the post, I can't find it...
@Alison -- That's the Corona loveseat, which is a little shorter than the sofa and has two cushions instead of three.
For Rose:
His site is www.johnnysparks.etsy.com Nothing on it right now, but for future reference. Thanks for the support!
yes, Alison, it's the love seat. teeny apartment...
How do you like your Lillesand bed? I want one desperately.
I love your apartment! Where did you get the rug runner shown in the hallway?
Just some feedback on the Lillesand bed, or any bed with a footboard: Don't get one for a small space. The footboard makes it occupy more visual space and you can't sit at the end of the bed, a nice option for a small space. I wish I had known or thought about this! On the other hand, the Lillesand is well-made and incredibly affordable. I got a 10-inch natural latex memory foam from Overstock and the middle-range bed slat system from IKEA. We put a sheepskin mattress pad. Yay! no box spring and it is a dream to sleep on.
The green tiles in the kitchen are great. Where are they from?
I am looking for similiar cabinets, but in a darker color. Please advise, where the cabinets are from and the height of the upper cabinets. Great job on meshing modern and homey.
Nice....don't ever change.
In case anyone is interested...

Our rug runner is made from the Flor carpet tiles which we bought in 2 colors. Kitchen is an IKEA job...it's nice looking, but honestly we wouldn't recommend them. They're not that well made.
I know this is an old post. But gosh I love the colors in the bedroom!
