- What I Love About My Small Home:
- The light. We have tons of windows and high ceilings so it never feels small. Also, surprisingly, the amount of space. We moved into this apartment after 4 years in a 400 sq. ft. apartment, and felt like we were moving into a palace.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- The biggest challenge was problem solving for multipurpose spaces while operating on a low budget. The best solve we had was the IKEA hack we use to hold our books/TV/office all along one wall. We used the expedit series and left out some of the separating shelves to hold a stool for the computer, the printer, and the cable box, and used the doors/shelves to hide the clutter with some different knobs.
The other challenge was starting from scratch on a budget since we had to sell a lot of our old stuff because it was way too small (looked like doll furniture). All of the new big stuff, like the couch, was bought during our first Black Friday in the apartment. Most everything else was family stuff we had kept/Ebay/Craigslist/found on the street/used and collected throughout the year. There was one splurge item is the lamp next to the couch, which was a surprise holiday gift. My partner scored it on sale 4 months before Christmas.

Gorgeous! Where is your bed from? I love it.
I love how your cat blends into the bedding. Lovely place!!!
Thanks! We got the headboard off craigslist.
I really adore your bathroom; love that clean, sharp dark grey. Lovely!
The chicken art in the bathroom is very cool.
The rooster and turkey in the bathroom is exceptional! Great frames, great paint. This is one of my favorite apartments so far. Nice work!
This is so awesome, I'm only sad that I can't see what you did with the kitchen!
Very well-photographed tour! It really gives you a sense of the place in only 5 photos.
I also like your use of houseplants; not too many, in all the right places, look good and healthy, make a real difference!
I know those are slightly weird things to comment on, but those are just things that struck me as being *unlike* some of the other entries so far.
Its really lovely, I love the bedroom, what shade is the bedroom wall. Your cat is cosy on the bed.
haha! i had to go back and look for the cat!
Thanks, Hannah! The bedroom paint color is Benjamin Moore 2123-60 Sea Foam. I wanted to go darker, but my partner really wanted that color. So I let her use that in the bedroom, and she let me go super dark in the bathroom, which she was dead set against.
Very nice. Everything looks comfy and cozy. Would love to see the kitchen!
You have the same space issue I do and you've solved it in a clever way. Thanks.
Love the wall with the books/tv. Very well organized and done.
I love the casualness, love the cat, love the colors. Well done!
I must know where that moose towel rack in the bathroom is from.
Thanks, Ana!
Butch's (our cat's) head is swelling with all the compliments!
The moose head came from a flea market. But I just googled "cast iron moose head wall hook" and it's available on amazon.com, too!
LOVE.
My favorite so far! Great. Where did you get that fabulous chandelier?
Thanks, Suzee.
Finding and getting that chandelier is actually my partner's proudest moment! We have always had problems finding things we both liked that were in our budget. She found it on eBay and won with a final bid of $65! It is one of our favorite things in the house. Thanks for noticing!
I really like your place. It's arranged in a nice layout, plus I love the color in the bathroom. Well done!
Love your bathroom....
EVERYTHING about this space works so well, love, love love it!
How do you keep your cat away from those plants?
I think you've done a great job with the colours you've chosen for the walls, the throw rugs, picture frames and artwork etc. (But what is that splat fur/skin on top of the orange throw? I can't figure it out!)
The photographs look professional - well done!
@KATAGAB Thanks so much! My husband is a lover of Moose.
Thanks, Brit!
That is a fake kitty-sized fur rug. We put it down so the cat hair doesn't show up so much on his favorite place to sit on the bench. That's also why we have the quilt over the part of the couch in front of the window. Another favorite place for him to perch. Just makes it easier to clean. :)
Favourited. I love the layout of this place, it just seems like it flows really well. I like that the bedroom has a dreamy almost ethereal feel to it as well. Also, major closet envy. So jealous!
Lovely, I especially like the dark bathroom walls and the bed. Something I don't think I've seen before, which is genius, is that upholstered bench / long ottoman between your coffee table and the TV. I love how it's significant extra seating (and in just the right place) but because it's so low it doesn't impact on the openness of the room. Brilliant. If I could Pin it to Pinterest I totally would (AT - is it just me, or is there some anti-Pinterest strategy at work here?)
I love the bathroom and the bedroom. Great job! And cute cat, btw! :)
The grey of the walls is absolutely stunning! Please let me know what color it is so I can make my place just as beautiful =)
Like it all (and it was fun to have to take a moment to decide whether that was a picture of a cat on the pillow, he matches so perfectly!) but had to say your bathroom is one of the best EVER and that's saying a lot, I've got two to re-do and have been idea-gathering like crazy for over a year now.
@justjean thanks for the compliment! The color on the bathroom wall is Benjamin Moore 1596 nightfall.
Seems I can not "vote" for your fab space, as i do not use FaceBook aplications and "likes".
Total love for the bathroom.
Nice space. From where did you get the curtains in your bedroom?
@zune thanks! The curtains are a pretty basic ivory canvas panel we got from an online sale at jcpenny...they were cheap for the length we needed for our super tall windows. We thought they were blackout but turns out not so much so we had to pair them with IKEA blinds so we can sleep past sunrise.
wonderful space. great light, indeed!
Simple, cosy, I like it.
I love the bedroom.
Very peaceful. Love the bathroom.
The bathroom is amazing! Especially the chicken and turkey pictures. Hilarious!
So peaceful. Where did you get the amazing pig picture above the table?
@cboleyn, thanks! The print is from etsy...it's a butchery diagram melded with a map of Brooklyn...I bought it for my partner as a housewarming present since she is a big fan of pork...link below!

It feels cozy and spacious--excellent!
the bathroom! oh my!
In love with your bathroom -- particularly the chicken/rooster. Favorited!
