- What I Love About My Small Home:
- We lucked out by getting a top floor, corner unit apartment in a beautiful, old apartment building. Our two favorite things about our apartment are the ample windows and the location of our building. The windows are great because living in Seattle we appreciate any indoor sunshine that we can get. We feel so lucky. Additionally, the location of our building is fantastic. We live in a vibrant neighborhood, on the edge of downtown. It is a short walk to Pike Place Market, close to restaurants and bars in Capitol Hill, and within a few minutes of the downtown retail core.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Our most notable challenge was storage. In particular, storing our collection of instruments was difficult. We have a banjo, a dulcimer, multiple guitars, and a keyboard, among other things. Although we have a large closet, it stores inventory for our online vintage clothing shop, so the space is limited, making it difficult to also fit our instruments. We decided to solve this problem by featuring the instruments mounted on the wall as artwork. This was a great storage solution.

I loooooooove it!
Love all the funny instruments on the wall in the next room! :-D
Love the instruments on the wall! Makes me want to go hang up my own dulcimer!
I wanted to see the kitchen! ( and the eye painting scares me a wee bit).
Great space! Where did you get the kitchen table? It is exactly what I am lookign for!
If I lived here, I would move the office to where the dining table is. Since there is bar seating at the kitchen, I would eat there and keep the bedroom a sanctuary without any office stuff. That's just me and my feelings.
I love the decorating, it's very modern-are you an artist? Love the curtains between rooms and the bar chairs. It's so full of clean lines............!
@Malibustacey It's Ikea's Norden with one of the leaves folded down -- I have the same one in butcher's block.
I registered just so I could post and ask - where did you get those curtains? They are great!
Great colors. Good, clean lines. That rug in front of the sofa looks kind of lonely all by itself. Some closet!!
Is that a dog/cat bed in the vintage suitcase? :O *swoon*
@MalibuStacey and @kbwelham- yes, the table is the Ikea Norden. It is such a great piece. I love how functional it is, because you have the option of opening both leaves, one leaf, or no leaves. It is a great space saver.
@Aim-Kev- Thank you. My husband is an artist, so he was a huge help in decorating. He also created all of the artwork pieces (including the eye-my personal favorite), which gives our apartment a nice personal touch.
@Socksberg- My sister gave me the curtains. They were just sitting in her basement because she didn't have anywhere to use them. She said that she bought them at Walmart a few years back.
@Bradical- Yes, it is a dog bed made out of a vintage suitcase. I made a tutorial on my blog. It was a very simple project. You can read it here: http://moxandfodder.com/2011/10/24/vintage-suitcase-dog-bed/
Thank you everyone!
Yes. First apt so far that made me click through to look at the photos/layout! I had that kitchen table in my NYC apartment years ago and adore it - wonderful space saver and folds out on both sides!
I love this place! Congrats on the location; it sounds perfect! I love the use of color here. Makes me feel relaxed just looking at the photos.
Great, great , great! I have the same chairs of your studio, the same dinner table in my kitchen, the same blinds! What a taste and what an elegance with some very cheap pieces. I feel I am in a very good company!
LOVE EVERYTHING
I am so in love with your place!! Where is the desk from? I've been looking for something similar, narrow and long.. Would you please share that info? Thank you!
lovely and well-proportioned/appointed.
@Pier723, it is from Ikea. It's the Micke Desk. It is a really great desk and is $69. It is perfect for two people.
@creative ordinette That is awesome!
@Threeacres, thank you so much. That table is one of the best purchases we have ever made. It is fantastic.
This is a really cool space. i love all of it.
I think the couch could use a small ottoman in front of it - looks a bit lonely with just it and the rug. Otherwise, nice space.
I LOVE those barstools, and that mirror. Very nice, modern space!
Your apartment is so nice and bright! Love all your little touches too :)
Love the pet bed. :)
