Name: Katie
Location: Barrack's Row, Capitol Hill - Washington, D.C.
I downsized to my current apartment -- a 400-square-foot junior one-bedroom in Washington, D.C. -- from an airy two-bedroom loft in New Orleans. I've inherited many of my furniture pieces or collected them on my travels, so I had to be creative in the way I used my space.
The living room is extra large, so I zoned it into a den area, an office and a closet. The result is certainly cozy, but not cramped or cluttered. It's a place I'm happy to relax in.
My design inspiration centers on a rug I bought when visiting Turkey a few years ago. I love the colors in it and how it adds an air of sophistication without being too fussy. My book and rock collections are also a source of design inspiration, lending a library- or museum-like feel to the space.
Thanks, Katie!

I love everything about this!
Katie, it's lovely! I'm originally from south Louisiana but have relocated to DC, so I understand the challenge that comes with having a smaller space when decorating. You have done a fantastic job!
I have those same books! Love your place!
Your home looks great & is totally charming (-:
We have similar bikes and I think quite possibly the same basket! Love your home!
Very cozy! Are the shelves in the LR from Crate & Barrel?
I like the lights behind the curtain!
Thanks everyone for the kind comments!
@Kit_Kat, the shelves are from Target.

I love your place! I have a small place as well. You did a great job. Where do you sleep? I don't have a seperate bedroom, so I put up a loft-the only thing that allowed me more room. Great Place!
Another question-how did you make the curtain with the lights? I also see you have a divider, I love it. I need a new one. Is that what you use to hide things-store things? I use mine to so no one see's my liter box. :)
Love this place! Great job Katie. Great to see these Seattle pics on AT, keep it up.
LOVE!
@BoHoChic3, Thanks! To make the curtain I just hemmed some fabric to the right length and hung it up on an Ikea curtain wire with some Ikea Christmas light curtain panels behind it. Doing so doubled my closet space in the apartment!
Warm and inviting. Thanks for letting us into your home. Great pieces, great placement, and the light curtain is genius. Wondering where you got the screen in the corner?
I like the feeling of honest, traditional comfort - no trendy designer statements or fetishy objects.
The curtain with the fairy lights is a charming touch.
Great rug!
I LOVE the footstool in the living room. Do you mind sharing where you picked it up?
Many thanks.
