For about 1-2 weeks of the year it can get a bit toasty here in our corner of Los Angeles. But as renters, we've only got a single window AC to cool down the apartment bedroom. Even at full blast the rest of the rooms throughout the apartment can stay warm with stagnant warm air. This is where air circulation can come in handy, either eliminating the need for an air conditioner altogether or help extend the cooling effects of a smaller AC unit more effectively beyond its normal range...
We like this extremely powerful, but small footprint unit from Vornado, which eliminates the need for annoying and incomplete coverage provided by oscillating fans, creating a more constant circulation range when placed in the corner of a room. Dark and tall with 4 speeds, the 184 and smaller 153, can move 100 and 80 ft of air; the two lower settings are quite quiet, ideal for nighttime use. A remote and timer also make it easy to use, with an impressive 5 year warranty. We're going to see if we can make it through the whole summer without turning on an AC with the help of this circulator and will report back after we hit some temps near the triple figures at the later part of the summer season (we've already used it during a warmer 85 degree early summer spell and it kept two of our rooms well within a comfort zone all day).
