There is no need for a mouse pad for such a mouse so the keeping it simple idea is not really applying so well. Even on a glass table there are a number of mice that will now work.
JDoey: as someone with the same mouse and also a similar white desk, I'd have to disagree. The Apple Magic Mouse doesn't do exceedingly well on a white glossy desk (but does fine on a darker glossy surface). I still use a mousepad for the same reason.
