With all the brouhaha over toy recalls making the rounds all over this morning, this might be a good time to look around the house for potentially hazardous household items, whether you've got children or not. Appliances, furniture, lighting and other common products are regularly recalled, and most of us won't know it unless the recall is on a major scale and reported by the press; most go silently under the radar.

Just checking the August Recalls and Product Safety bulletin right now, you'll see lounge chairs with structural issues, metal folding chairs with faulty rivets, and window blinds with a strangulation hazard all listed for recall and replacement or repair. Check out current and past consumer product recalls at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website, and make your home a safer one.
