During our Escapes month on Ohdeedoh, we are posting great photos and tips for traveling with children from our readers. Please check here for all the details. The first twenty submissions posted will receive the official AT bib. Hope to hear from you soon.
These two are obviously having a very relaxing time at Disney World! Nothing like falling asleep on a comfortable lounge chair after a tough day of swimming and playing in the sand.
The city and location the photo was taken in:
This picture of my two sons, Keiran and Tristan, was taken at The Beach Club Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida.
Your favorite baby or child-friendly activity there:
We swam every day at the pool. In this picture, Tristan had actually fallen asleep while sitting on my lap in the sand and playing. My husband had just graduated from Grad School. After two years of his hard work and seven months of traveling on weekdays for work we all wanted to get away. Disney World proved to be the perfect place for us. Obviously, kid friendly, Disney World also had many adult options as well. Mostly we liked the wide range of activities both at the parks and the resorts, the fact that our one year old could go on most rides with us, and that we were able to travel easily and quickly to and from our room.
Your best tip or words of wisdom for traveling with kids:
When we travel to resorts of any kind, we like to send a box down ahead of us with some incidentals, toiletries, and even snacks. I also make sure to put some fun treats for the boys like bubble guns and pool toys. Just be sure to call the hotel or resort ahead of time to make sure they know it is coming and verify how to identify your box.
Your favorite way to make it feel like home:
We always make sure that each boy gets to bring one special thing from home. Keiran brings his beloved bear, Rupert, while Tristan is fond of a blanket. We did forget Tristan's blanket on this trip and it was a nightmare. Also, they share a small backpack for their carry on toys. I make sure they aren't too big, don't make much noise, and don't have a lot of parts. I have learned the hard way not to bring crayons on flights. Instead, we bring a travel sized magnet drawing board.
An item you MUST take with you when traveling:
One thing I never travel with out is a nasal aspirator! If you go on vacation to a climate your child isn't use to he or she may have allergy issues, or even get a cold from traveling. It is hard to find an aspirator at a hotel, especially if you don't have a car.
