Prefab sheds usually conjure up images of utilitarian wood and steel structures, but this airy and modern shed from Kekkilä Garden is a DIY for daydreamers.
Intended to be part storage shed and part greenhouse, this modular structure is manufactured by Finnish garden supplier Kekkilä Garden. The original shed offered by the company comes in several prefabbed configurations and can be assembled with only a screwdriver.
However, designer Linda Bergroth built this custom version to be used as her own summer retreat, complete with wood flooring and solar panels for lighting.
If I drifted away to a peaceful paradise like this, I don't think I'd ever float back to reality...

Beautiful.
Yes, I would like to have a nap in there on a spring day.
Wow. I want to go there and get away for some time. Better yet, I wish I lived in a house and could have that in my backyard.
Beautiful, but how do you keep it cool? It is meant to be a greenhouse, after all. Wouldn't it get quite hot in there?
I think she's based in finland, land of cool weather and natives who love themselves a sauna, so I imagine the heat is not an issue.
I would love to be here, even if it is hot.
Gorgeous, especially with the garden and views of the water.
Lovebugbecky: this is Finland. It never gets very hot. Especially by the lake and under the trees like that. There are a few weeks in the summer when it's upper 70's, low 80's...so not an issue. The mosquitos, on the other hand...
And to point out one lovely thing, those are all blueberries and lingonberries around it. Yum!
Oh, and one MAJOR practicality issue: it never gets dark in the summer, so you'll need one of those masks to actually sleep comfortably in the glass hut!
Of course, it helps to have it surrounded by a piece of Paradise, as in photo.
Sure it can get way too hot up North too in the summer months, with direct sunshine in a glass house without shades ;) And yeah, sleeping at night would be an issue too.
Let's face it, this isn't really, completely, a retreat. It's a glass bedroom. Where is the bathroom? This is very likely an additional building on grounds with another main building.
Yes, that's why the title says "garden shed turned _backyard_ retreat." I assume it's in the backyard of someplace with a bathroom, and where you could go to sleep if the shed were too hot or cold or bright, or whatever. But how cool would it be if you lived somewhere on the water like this, and put one of these in your backyard as a place for a nap, or to read a book or work, or where the kids could sneak off and play or talk. Dreamy.
this is amazing. imagine waking up to the sunrise there
I once slept in a greenhouse and it was absolutely hideously hot by 7:30 in the morning - this was in Finland, where the sun rises at 3AM in the summer. This space is not usable unless it is air-conditioned.
@citychik & hyzen: I think it may have its own bathroom. See on the backside, where the solar panels are? That bit has wall paneling as well, so it's private. It looks like you'd have to go outside to get into the bathroom though, if that's what it is.
But yeah, there's surely a bathroom nearby since I don't think a designer would forget something like that! :)
oh, whoops! I didn't even see there were other photos before posting. NOT a bathroom built on the glass house. I could swear those photos weren't there while I was reading though. Are things loading slow since the new look around here? Ah, maybe it's just me.
Anyway, now I'm thinking, what if I wanted a nap after a skinny dip? Sleep mask isn't gonna help that!
