Name: Kelly & Matt
Location: Silver Lake — Los Angeles, California
Size: 1,400 square feet
Years lived in: 3½ — owned
Kelly, a fashion designer, and Matt, an attorney (and DJ), have created a home that mixes clean, formal elements gracefully with really fun pieces collected from flea markets and high end boutiques. Their love of tiki materials is shown throughout their home and connects the interior with their lush outdoor space.
Much like Kelly's nature-inspired clothing line, the interior design of their home is marked with whimsy and exoticism and incorporates classic vintage design in a modern way. Their home includes many natural elements from room to room in the use of wood, grasscloth, and pottery. The furniture and paint colors are also fixed to a natural palette. They incorporate color through their art and accessories. The couple's fondness for tiki decor is rooted in the striking qualities that come forth in the elements and patterns of their ceramic mugs, masks, textiles, and bamboo. I personally love the way they display textiles as art.
The master bedroom opens up directly to the patio and backyard which features really beautiful landscaping. Don't miss Kelly's garage turned studio in back. You can see how takes a similar approaches in her fashion and interior design.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Serene, spacious, gorgeous!
i love this house, well done!!!
Lovely house and yard. I had to click through every picture because of the textiles--fabulous. However (I never thought I'd say this on AT), way too many pictures. 17 pics just of the living room? Far more than were necessary to reveal the space.
I also love it!
Very nicely done.
Beautiful! I love that their home is tropical feeling, bright and fun without being at all tacky. The dark wood and surfaces really stand out against the light walls.. the contrast is great!
I absolutely love this place! Very well done! Kudos! Want your bedroom wallpaper NAO!
Just 2 minor things... WAY too many photo's! And most of them are almost identical! (5 pictures showing your bathroom sink???)
And you forgot to photograph your iMac and Eames... this is AT after all ;) [thank god you've got an Expedit and some midcentury furniture... or you'd be shunned!]
The outdoor area is incredible
I miss L.A.!
Honestly? Not a big fan. Way too much beige. And that greenish color on the walls? Pass. When I read "Tiki" I thought it would be vibrant, but this falls flat. Not my cup of tea. It's good that other people seem to like it, though.

Balanced - balance of light and dark and balance of picture positioning. Balance and good flow of walkways and furniture. Yes, there is a lot of wall art, but it is their passion, and it is not cluttered looking, grouped in meaningless irregular positions like many "collectors" seen on AT. They understand "white space" well - more of that balance. In all, a great job.
It is a nice place, but can the white mini blinds go?
Nice space. My only question is do they realize that the artwork in photo 4 was meant to be horizontal flying geese or did they hang it vertical to be abstract?
I agree that there were way too many pictures of the living room area. Nicely done but not my style, the outdoor area was my favorite...oh and the bathroom.
This is my inspiration home! Very unique and homey.
Comfy but super dull. Needs some edge or flavour maybe.
But ya, I could fall asleep there and read a book or something. But design-wise, it's a little haphazard considering the space is so big.
Love it.
I'm in Canada,so tiki brought me here to check this out.I have no idea what tiki really is.Still don't.Maybe I was expecting hula girl lamps and a beach resort feel.
I don't think this is dull or uninspired. The house is small and I'm not sure a riot of colour wouldn't be overwhelming. This is clean and spacious.I hadn't expected that.
I like the cool neutrality of the whole space, but I think some of the groupings on the shelves/cabinet tops are little busy. I think if the collections were edited a little, the individual pieces would pop more. I would also look for barkcloth featuring that fantastic turqoise in the hangings \above the sideboard and add some pillows and/or drapes.
