Name: Kevin & Julie
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
When we were preparing for baby number three, my husband and I bought a house that apparently no one wanted. This makes us either geniuses or saps. I’m still not sure, but I lean toward the former.
Our lovely 1960s split level (yes, that’s right; I called a split level lovely) had been on the market for four months including a “price adjustment” and still no takers. Enter the Morrises. Our diamond in the rough had been updated enough to be truly tragic. Since our purchase a year and half ago, we've been busy updating what needed to go (like the kitchen and hopefully soon a poorly updated bathroom), fixing up what was already great about the house (like the floors), and decorating with lots of garage sale, estate sale, and Craigslist finds.
Thanks, Kevin & Julie!

I agree, it is lovely. Way to see the potential! That makes it even more cool.
I'm voting for "genius," not "sap." Well done you guys. Love the dining room chairs.
Split levels are lovely! I really like the lockers in your nursery. I've been looking for something similar...
Beautiful job! Love that you could see the potential from the beginning.
Genius!
Are those slipcovers on the white living room chairs? If so, where did you get them? I'm looking for those exact sort and having the hardest time finding them!
I LOVE the light, airy kitchen... and the fireplace is great too! Good work!
Ohhhh, lovely. What colour are the walls in the first picture?
Genius; those other people were just short-sighted...which worked out well for you.
Looks great! I especially love your beautiful kitchen!
No before/afters?
The beams in your living room are amazing! Love it!

I'd say the people who didn't want it are the saps.
I adore those dining room chairs!!
Spectacular job! It always amazes me, when I watch HGTV, how little imagination typical home buyers have in visualizing potential. You two have both imagination AND the skills to bring it to life.
Suburban chic! Way to rock that split-level!
I agree with @LeslieM, I watch HGTV and cringe when I see people pass up homes that have good bones and endless potential. Some people just don't get it :)
Great job!
I spy with my little eye a Roost lamp that I have been coveting....
Lovely job! I am going to show my husband that having an all white canvas (like in your fab kitchen) doesn't mean "institutional" because the accessories add lively pops of color.
I would have liked to see before and afters!
idk a lot of places are just sitting and not selling nowadays. But congrats on finding a place with such lovely bones. I too would love to see before pictures.
I totally agree with LeslieM - the homebuyers on HGTV cannot see potential. Apparently, neither can most of the other homebuyers. Congratulations on your deal and making the house your own.
Gorgeous kitchen and great job! I love diamonds in the rough!
House tour! And what about bfr/aft?
Thanks everyone! We love our house. I actually made the slip covers on the off white chairs in the den. The brown in the first pictures is a mixture of two Restoration Hardware browns. I'd love to share before and afters. I'm working up a blog where I will do that at some point. I'll keep you posted!
why are split levels normally considered not lovely? (I have never been in one... just curious)
where did the rino head come from in the living room?
this place looks fantastic- I love what you have done so far!
Split levels are just the '60s at their worst. It's an exterior issue--lots of garage. Personally, I think most work quite well on the interior.
The Rhino head is from Z Gallery.
love that rounded fireplace
