Garden Visit: Kevin's Tiny Tropical Paradise

Kevin's Hollywood home (see it here in his House Tour) is a colorful and artfully curated space. But with two stories, it's hard to call it small. His garden, on the other hand, is a tiny jewel of a space full of tropical flair.

Kevin is a collector and has sourced for some of the biggest names in antiques in LA (check out his blog for tours and LA-design info), and his backyard is a collection of all things Hawaiian.

Perfect for entertaining, the small space is arranged for al fresco dining. Maximizing the available space, there's a thin border for planting: succulents and cactus keep it low maintenance, and a bright turquoise fence adds a punch of color to the tiny patio. Foregoing a traditional shade umbrella, Kevin used paper parasols from chinatown to provide colorful shade to a picnic table ready for a tiki-inspired snack. Since it rarely rains in Southern California, Kevin can leave the parasols up without much risk of them getting rained on.

Below, the filtered light is colorful and fun. A totem stands guard in the corner right behind my favorite piece: A grand peacock chair from the 70's that anchors the table and the garden.
