KiBiSi is a Copenhagen-based industrial/architectural/branding firm made up of three people: Ki
(industrial designer Lars Holme Larsen, aka Ki
lo Design), Bi
ngels), and Si
(designer Jens Martin Skibsted's S
deation). It's a supergroup of design, like if Crosby, Stills & Nash had better haircuts and made high-end bikes.
One thing we noticed and liked about their designs is the simple and straightforward way they use color. Bright, primary colors indicate how an object was made or how it works.
For instance, the Shanghay Chair is made from four pliable boards in different colors, and the chairs can be pushed together to create a bench. The colored slats demonstrate how one shape, repeated many times, can build something bigger. Other designs—like the green Roulade chair roll or the orange Aiaiai earphones—use just one color to highlight the simplicity of the form.
All of the products shown above come from KiBiSi's online portfolio
. Many of them are concept designs or prototypes, but a few of them are available through retailers including Hay
in Denmark. For more information on each design, click through the caption links.
