Fizzy water is a staple in our home. Last year we noticed that our water had been shipped to us from Germany and Italy and we became concerned about the energy required to ship water 4,500 miles plus the energy to create the bottles. After hearing that a public fizzy water fountain was being installed in Paris to help people kick the bottle habit we got motivated to make our own water at home.
The fizzy water, or carbonated water, we had been drinking was shipped from Germany and Italy because it was naturally carbonated in the ground there. With a little research we learned we could create our own fizzy water with a refurbished "corny" or cornelius keg, a carbon dioxide tank and two short lengths of hose. That allowed us to skip shipping water by carbonating tap water at home. We bought the whole set up as a kit ($165) and started making our own fizzy water straight away.

Really cool, and nice design. Are there any safety issues? I hear the smaller ones can explode (!)
Or you could jus buy the penguin from williams sonoma. It'll cost you $250 but much smaller...

I think my comment got booted cause of the link...as I was saying, Williams Sonoma has the penguin which makes the fizzy water & takes up a lot less space than the above but it costs $250...
Correction...the penguin has been reduced to $200..
Soda Stream is awesome and much cheaper...
we thought about going this route but found a sodastream for $130 and it's worked great. smaller too! the key is having a local place to buy & trade in your co2 cartridges.
