In the end, telling her, "The Doctor says you have to!" is my common go-to answer. Not the best parenting moment, maybe. But finding a comfortable eye patch that she loves has also made a huge difference. Which is why we love Happy Patch Kids patches - she can pick a design she loves and wears it proudly. Between her favorite eye patches and a big dose of Pirate lore, we're doing A-OK! Now I'd love to add these pirate themed things to our growing collection to keep my little pirate inspired:
- Pirate Sue from Stuf
- Happy Patch Kids Eye Patches
- Charlotte Jane Battles Bedtime
- Pirate Blackboard Stickers
- Pirate and Treasure Puzzle

Aw, I knew a little girl who wore an eye patch off and on for years. Anything that helps them feel more confident about it is good.
My daughter has been wearing a patch for almost 2 years now. We've had great luck with framehuggers.com (her eye dr recommended it as they cover more than many other felt patches). She also likes the book The Pirate of Kindergarten by George Ella Lyon.
We didn't have much luck with fabric patches, as our son kept looking over them. We love the MYI patch by the fresnel lens company - http://www.myipatches.com/home.php. They are soft adhesive patches and come in a variety of colors and patterns. Our son always picks out the flames - which matches his sparky personality!
I want to also mention that the MYI patch as a lot of "girly" patterns as well, but the flames would probably work for a lot of spunky girls!! :)
Wish they'd had all this when I was a kid wearing an eye patch. Even referencing the Goonies didn't help me with the other kids who made fun of it. But kudos to you parents who are trying to make it cool for your kids. They'll be thankful one day.
Oh Mari, my daughter is a patch-wearer too, and started both that and glasses at 15 months. We've gone in and out of success with this, but overall having beautiful patches that look like stickers works for us. We use Ortopads and they don't hurt like some others do. When we started, she would also put the patch on her dolls, sweet thing. Check my Pinterest board where I've been collecting more ideas on this: http://pinterest.com/itsyfactor/patch-glasses/
