We bought this little red metal first aid box a few years ago and it's become one of our favorite things. It's a simple, well-thought-out design that can be mounted to the wall or kept on a shelf.
It's good-looking, so it's not a problem to keep it on display, and it's small, so it can easily fit into an entryway, a kitchen nook, or a bathroom shelf. Made of enameled steel with a chrome latch, it's held up well.
Inside are three main compartments: one for large bandages and two for smaller supplies. First aid supplies aren't included with the box—for a good overview of how to stock a first aid kit, see this post.
The box is available through Kikkerland (the manufacturer) for $23, or you can buy it through specialty shops like Mxyplyzk or Velocity Art & Design.

Wow...I have all my first aid supplies in a shoe box. Didn't know one had to have a "kit" for one.
I want one! I love shiny red enamel functional things. I would go perfect inside of this cabinet. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00104007
Little is right, I ordered this and promptly returned it when I saw how small it really was. You can't fit much in it.
I have one of these--stocked with chocolates, cigarettes, matches, condoms, and mini bottles of booze! ;)
For a small space, I think a more portable (less heavy and rigid) first aid kit would be more appropriate. It seems like this one would be better for a general use first aid kit, if you have the space to stash another more portable one for grabbing and taking with you in an emergency.
I love, love the idea of a "first aid" kid stocked with chocolate, etc. May have to steal this as a gift idea!
