Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: I love how soft and light the space feels. When it finally cools down here at night I will enjoy sitting out front reading a book. I also enjoy watching the curtains blow softly in the wind. It is a very peaceful but inspiring space.
Biggest Design Challenge With This Space: The three little steps up to the front door were constantly causing people to trip. Originally I painted the three levels slightly different shades of grey, but people still tripped. Finally, I put down my favorite written quotes with electrical tape. The tape stays down sun or rain without problems and everyone is not only watching their step as they walk up, but enjoying a little positive motivation. With an upcoming party for 150 guests, this was an important factor to fix.
Tips for Creating a Great Small Outdoor Space: Don't be afraid to try something outside that you would do inside. I added mosquito netting curtains which function to keep the florida bugs out in a lovely ethereal way. All my friends said "what? curtains outside?" but these are made to weather the weather. They get a little wet and dry quickly as soon as the sun comes back out. I also hung my artwork outside to add color and make the space really feel like an outdoor lounge. Pretty vintage or cool industrial lighting is also important. You are not limited to what you find in the "outdoor" lighting section.
Thanks, Kimberly, and good luck!

Sprout Side Table
I'm glad someone finally posted a space that dealt with my location issues - FL sun, rain and bugs. And the need to have furniture that can easily be brought inside, for hurricanes. Those bug curtains have been my list for a while, good to see a positive review. Nice job!
Love it
So happy to be included as a contestant! This space is still a work in progress, but I just love it and I am so proud of the work we have put into it!
I love that the curtains are functional and but add some drama.
I like this space. Very cool, clean feeling and not cluttered! I could see myself lounging reading fashion magazines or a book. Awesome job!
Where did you get the mosquito net curtains?
