People love to gather in the kitchen, often creating a crowd in the midst of a cooking frenzy. A kitchen bar welcomes guests, while also maintaining a barrier for the cook. More than entertaining, the bar provides a place for a casual meal with a quick cleanup. As we move away from formal dining rooms, eat-in kitchens offer a compromise that still encourages eating together in a central location.
Whether you have the option of creating a kitchen bar, or just enjoy dreaming about it, these interiors provide some inspiring ways to boost your kitchen with a kick of color. From painting a salvaged bar stool, to refinishing the cabinets, there are an endless number of ways to incorporate color.

Nomade Express Slee...
First thing I noticed...a GALLON sized jar of Marmite? O. M. G!!!
I love that these kitchens have so much personality. I'm looking at homes to buy in the suburbs and it's amazing how not a single one has an ounce of personality in it! I guess that just allows me more room to add my own. :)
LOVE the pink kitchen
Yes, that's just what suburban home sellers aim to do, depersonalize them so as to make it easier for potential buyers to imagine their own style and furnishings in them. They're aiming to make them look well-maintained and expensive rather than to have personality. Good luck with your home hunt!
Thanks Miami's Elaine! Everyone around here wants the same old cherry cabinets, granite counters and stainless steel set up. You wouldn't believe the blank stares I get when I say that's NOT what I want!
A suburbanite myself, I'll admit that suburbia is hardly the first place to look for nonconformity and artistic risk-taking. Most neighbors instead emphasize their professional degrees and trying to look like they have more money than they do. I prefer the few creative neighbors who enjoy giving their homes some boldness and flair. OTOH, if I were selling in this market, then I'd adopt to some extent the blank slate strategy you've noticed so as to broaden my home's appeal. Again, happy hunting!
