You may think kitchen cabinets are nothing to get excited about. But that's because you haven't seen these kitchen cabinets: designs that elevate kitchen storage from a simple box with a door to something unusual and even incredibly beautiful. They are all evidence that good design can transform even the most humble of objects.

Above, a Warsaw kitchen in a 1930s apartment designed by Polish firm Colombe Design, via Yellowtrace. The owner doesn't actually cook, but that doesn't make those iron-framed cabinets any less spectacular.

Shiny navy blue lacquer makes me long to run my hands over these beautiful, dark cabinets. I love how the dark background brings out the pale colors of the coral collection. Spotted on My Domaine.

It's not the shape, but the material that makes these cabinets from Carmody Groarke stand out. A minimal design means that the beauty of the wood grain takes center stage.

This humble one-bedroom apartment, spotted on Planete Deco, has one of the most beautiful kitchens I've ever seen. The combination of dark grey cabinets and brass hardware is especially striking.

Black cabinets are a bit of an unusual choice, but these beautifully detailed glass-front cabinets from Jessica Helgerson Interior Design, via Birch and Bird, strike the perfect note.
