You don't have to remodel to add a lot of extra counter space and storage space to your kitchen — all it takes is a kitchen cart. These little workhorses are a great way to make a small kitchen more workable, or just help you get the most of your space no matter what size it is. We've rounded up a few of our favorite kitchen carts (and islands), in a range of prices to suit pretty much any budget.

LOW

This hardworking IKEA cart is perfect for smaller kitchens. It's made of solid wood, and can be painted, stained, or just left natural.

This little cart has a bit of an industrial vibe. The middle tray slides out like a drawer for easy access to storage, and the stainless steel top is easy to clean.

The butcherblock top is a nice touch — and, if you chose, this cart can be folded up to store when not in use.

Perfect for a small kitchen, this reasonably-priced island offers a little extra work space and a lot of extra storage space.

This kitchen cart has a rail on one side and hooks for storage on the other — and the glass windowpane door is a nice touch. It's also available in grey and black.

This stainless steel cart will add quite a bit of extra counter space to your kitchen. The rails at the side are perfect for towels or hanging storage.

MEDIUM

If your kitchen lacks drawers, this cart has got you covered. The four pull-out drawers are great for storage, and the crate style lends the piece a bit of country-kitchen charm.

This steel-topped cart has not one but two drawers, plus a closed cabinet, for a lot of storage in a fairly small footprint.

This marble-topped kitchen island offers a luxe look at a fairly low price. If you love the look of marble but you're renting, or remodeling isn't in the cards, this is a great option.

This kitchen island offers both a seating option and storage, with a leaf that flips up to accommodate stools when needed.

HIGH

Add a touch of warmth to a white kitchen with this rustic kitchen island. The steel top is both pretty and practical.

The folding leaf on one side of this island can be flipped up to accommodate diners, or down when you need more space. The Sheridan island is also available in grey and black.

I love the classic look of this kitchen island — equally perfect for a very traditional or a very modern kitchen.

This kitchen island, made of polished nickel, will add a bit of shine (and also quite a bit of storage) to your kitchen.

This marble Parsons table, which is made to order in California, will add a touch of refined luxury to your kitchen. At over $6k, it's definitely not a budget item — but this just might be the kind of kitchen island that becomes a family heirloom.
