Although I pinned these images to my kitchen board at least a year ago, I still really like this look. (The kitchen in the house I grew up in does have open wood shelving.) This timeless combination is clean and modern but still warm and natural. You can add in dark colors for a little more drama (Image 4) or try lighter wood such as birch for a softer look (Image 1).

Nomade Express Slee...
love the mismatched/reclaimed wood shelves in # 2.
I find this amazing that you should post image one! I know I posted it on my personal Tumblr a few weeks ago. I love it. I'm not sure if its all IKEA wares (or put out by IKEA themselves) But I know I recognized most of the products there from the trip i had just got back from. At least I'm not the only one to see the style in it.
Does anyone know where the bar stools from pic #3 are from?
I really love the open shelving plans that I've been seeing on the blogs for the past five years. But how do you keep all that stuff from going filthy, gunky with oil and dust? I cook _a lot_, and if I don't wipe down the cabinets and things that are kept on the metro shelving every week, I've got a real mess. Pretty, but functional for cooks?
@PINGARINA - I cook a lot, too, and open shelving is best kept far away from the splash zones. It won't get dirty or dusty as long as it's not right next to the stove.
I love the look of open shelving, but I would go crazy trying to keep them anally neat and clean.
